Becky and I took the kids to see Penelope tonight at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, Colorado last night. The Fandango website at Penelope describes the movie as follows:
“Born with the snout of a pig, young Penelope Wilhern spends her life a virtual prisoner in her home. Believing that the only way to break the curse is to marry one of her own kind, she meets a number of suitors, but all reject her. Two devious men , one with a grudge against the family, hire a man to pose as a suitor, but complications arise when he begins to fall in love with Penelope, and she makes a bid for freedom.”
Penelope is a story about self acceptance and loving yourself the way you are without trying to live up to the expectations of others. It’s a cute story that is unique from anything you’ve seen before. The film is very well done and it’s believable with the characters and the way it’s put together.
Okay, so Penelope isn’t going to win any Oscars, but it’s a good family film with a really good message and our kids like it and so did we. We would recommend this movie and it should make for a really good rental when it comes out on DVD.
