John & Becky’s Movie Review Of Ex-Machina

Ex-MachinaBecky and I went to see the new movie Ex-Machina this weekend at the Regal Cinema’s Continental in Englewood, CO. The MovieFone website at Ex-Machina describes the movie as follows…

“Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson) a programmer at a huge Internet company, wins a contest that enables him to spend a week at the private estate of Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac), his firm’s brilliant CEO. When he arrives, Caleb learns that he has been chosen to be the human component in a Turing test to determine the capabilities and consciousness of Ava (Alicia Vikander), a beautiful robot. However, it soon becomes evident that Ava is far more self-aware and deceptive than either man imagined…”

The Review: Becky and I arrived late for this movie, thanks to that app Flixster on our iPhone that said the film started at 7:40, when it really started at 7PM. Fortunately, there was about 20 minutes of Previews and we were able to catch on right away.  This is a suspense thriller that asks the question of what will happen with AI (Artificial Intelligence) is able to view people as inferior to them and manipulate them for their own benefit.  It brings together two brilliant minds dealing with a robot that has been created as a female that has amazing abilities because of how she was developed using a search engine as her mind.

I don’t want to tell you more about this movie, but I really liked it.  I thought it was extremely well done, even if it is a bit boring at times and moves slow with the characters.  I think the story is what makes it very well done, along with the directing, the acting and the setting in a remote region with a billionaire recluse.  It asks the question of consciousness, but I don’t believe that is what makes us who we are, although that is the question in the film.  What makes us who we are is the fact that we are spirit, soul and body and not just soul and spirit.  We are a living soul that is different than an animal, but that is a more deeper discussion than what is warranted for a movie review.  I still like the way they did the movie and it will make you feel uncomfortable a number of times with a bit of a thriller aspect to it.

Becky didn’t like it as much as I did though and found it to be a bit boring.  She thought it was a rental and I thought it was worth the trip.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of The Age Of Adaline

ageofadalineposterBecky and I went to see the new movie The Age Of Adaline last week as a sneak preview at the AMC Theater in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Fandango website at The Age of Adaline describes the movie as follows…

“Adaline (Blake Lively) has kept to herself for decades in order to keep secret the fact that she has remained 29-years-old for nearly a century. However, when she meets a handsome philanthropist named Ellis (Michiel Huisman), she strains against the self-imposed exile she’s lived in. When her secret may become public, she is forced to take greater control over her life. Harrison Ford and Kathy Bakerco-star. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi…”

The Review: This movie was pretty cool.  It’s about a woman who has a miraculous event that allows her body to stop the aging process.  That in itself makes for an interesting story, but it becomes quite complicated as she deals with not aging, while everyone around her continues to grow old.  It creates some real problems for her though as she cannot allow other people from her past to know her secret.

It’s a bit like a Twilight Zone story with a Rod Sterling type voice who explains the story as it goes forward at different times, which is a little odd and kind of annoying.  One thing that I found really fascinating is that the main character, played by Blake Lively, has her anti-aging because of extended telomeres.  I use a nutritional product that claims to do this same thing called Imortalium and they have a cool video about it.  I take the product everyday and it’s a great product.  I wrote an article about how people can earn an additional income promoting this one anti-aging product at ShareMerchant.com.

Becky and I really liked this movie and thought it was definitely a Don’t Miss It. It’s a great date night film and most people liked it.  It’s a very well done romantic movie that we both really liked.  It’s very well done.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2

PaulBlart2Becky and I went to see the Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 last week with the kids at the Regal Cinemas in Lone Tree, CO. The MovieFone website at Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 describes the movie as follows…

“After six years of keeping our malls safe, Paul Blart has earned a well-deserved vacation. He heads to Vegas with his teenage daughter before she heads off to college. But safety never takes a holiday and when duty calls, Blart answers…”

The Review: The first Paul Blart: Mall Cop was stupid and this one was just as stupid, but it was funny.  We had some good laughs, although the story is completely absurd and the characters are ridiculous.  Paul Blart is an overweight Mall Cop who ends up in Las Vegas as the Wynn Resort and Casino with his daughter, after his ex-wife from the first movie has left him.  His daughter has a weight problem like her Dad, but he has more of a self-esteem issue than anything.

Don’t expect any intellectual stimulation from this film because you won’t get any.  It’s pretty funny with quite a bit of goofy humor like when he ends up battling with a bird and a guy is playing a piano at the same time.  Kevin James who plays this character Paul Blart does a really good job and there are few parts in the film that will definitely crack you up.  I don’ t know if I would take the time to see it on the big screen, but it will make for a fun rental.  Conroy, Corban and Bianca liked it much more than we did and all thought that it was worth the trip to the theater.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of Woman In Gold

womanofgoldBecky and I went to see the film Woman in Gold at the AMC Theater in Highlands Ranch, CO.  The MovieFone website at Woman in Gold describes the movie as follows…

“Sixty years after fleeing Vienna, Maria Altmann (Helen Mirren), an elderly Jewish woman, attempts to reclaim family possessions that were seized by the Nazis. Among them is a famous portrait of Maria’s beloved Aunt Adele: Gustave Klimt’s “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I.” With the help of young lawyer Randy Schoeberg (Ryan Reynolds), Maria embarks upon a lengthy legal battle to recover this painting and several others, but it will not be easy, for Austria considers them national treasures…”

The Review: This film was based on a true story and the story is really quite amazing.  It jumps between World War II when the Nazi’s confiscated personal property and everything else from the Jewish people and modern times with a woman who lived through the German nightmare.  The woman in gold is actually a painting that was painted in gold and worth millions, but owned by the primary characters family and she wants it back from the Austrian government.

The acting in this film is fantastic and I am expecting that Helen Mirren will be nominated for best actress for this movie.  If she isn’t I will be surprised because she’s amazing in this film.  Ryan Reynolds was great in this movie too and they worked extremely well together and the story is great.  It will keep your interest and I liked the way it jumped back to when she was a young woman, so you could experience what her and her family went through during the Holocaust.

Unfortunately, that generation is passing away and I hope that future generations never forget what was done to the Jewish people.  Of course, there is a Christian Holocaust going on right now in man parts of the world and it’s horrific how evil people can be to one another.  This movie illustrates this point well, even years later when a government in the wrong doesn’t want to admit their wicked past.

Becky and I really liked this movie and thought it was a don’t miss it for sure.  If you miss it at the theater, make sure you see it when it comes out to view at home.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of The Longest Ride

longestrideBecky and I went to see the new movie The Longest Ride this Weekend at the AMC Theater in Castle Rock, CO. The Fandango website at The Longest Ride describes the movie as follows…

Nicholas Sparks‘ best-selling novel comes to the big screen in this romantic drama from director George Tillman Jr.. The plot centers on the star-crossed love affair between a retired bull rider who wants to get back in the saddle, and an art student preparing to seek her fortune in New York City. As their relationship is put to the ultimate test, the wisdom of an aging man who recalls his own lost love serves as a source of great inspiration. Scott Eastwood, Britt Robertson, Jack Huston, and Alan Alda star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi…”

The Review: I had low expectations going into this movie and figured it would be a very predictable and sappy Chick Flick, but I had to amuse Becky who had been waiting to see it.  I wasn’t a huge fan of The Notebook, it was good don’t get me wrong, but I didn’t think it was as great as everyone else thought it was.  I thought this movie was much better.  The Longest Ride has a great story, in fact it has a story within a story and it was a very well done.  It’s an entertaining love story that definitely kept our interest from start to finish.

The acting is really good and the characters were interesting.  The actors really fit the roles and they were believable.  The directing of the film was also well done.  Often times a film can have a good story, but if it is put together sloppy it’s not very entertaining to watch.  This was not the case with The Longest Ride that had several plot twists throughout the film.

Becky and I really liked this movie and thought it was definitely a Don’t Miss It. It’s a great date night film and you shouldn’t be disappointed if you go see it.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of Furious 7

furious7Becky and I went to see the new movie Furious 7 on opening Weekend at the AMC Theater in Castle Rock, CO.  The MovieFone website at Furious 7 describes the movie as follows…

“Continuing the global exploits in the unstoppable franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of Furious 7.  James Wan directs this chapter of the hugely successful series that also welcomes back favorites Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black.  They are joined by international action stars new to the franchise including Jason Statham, Djimon Hounsou, Tony Jaa, Ronda Rousey, Nathalie Emmanuel and Kurt Russell….”

The Review: Becky and I saw the first six of these films and this was the most ridiculous of them all as far as being far fetched.  There are some great vehicles in the film, plenty of car chases and extreme action. It’s a bit like a super hero film since what the characters pull off is impossible.  All of the characters have super human like abilities and some of the stunts are over the top, but it’s still very entertaining.

At the end of the film they had an incredible tribute to Paul Walker that definitely made it worth seeing the movie.  I really liked it and thought that it was worth the trip.  Becky liked it too, but it was really far-fetched that bugged her a little too much.
