Becky and I went to see Battleship last week before we ran the Colfax Marathon downtown at the Regal Cinemas in Denver, CO. The Fandango website at Battleship describes the movie as follows…
“Hasbro’s strategic board game gets a sci-fi facelift with this Universal Pictures production from director Peter Berg. The action will pit a small fleet of naval ships against an alien force intent on enriching Earth’s valuable assets to ensure their survival. Taylor Kitsch (Wolverine) and True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard star alongside Liam Neeson, Rihanna, and Brooklyn Decker…”
Battleship is based on the popular game we’ve all played as children where we would say, “You sunk by Battleship” and in this movie it’s the U.S. Navy against an elite alien invasion. It’s a fun film with plenty of action and mediocre acting, but lots of things blowing up like the Transformer films. The story is pretty good, until they go off the wall with the deployment of a retired Battleship to fight the space invaders, which was totally whacky with a bunch of old dudes running a retired ship.
This movie is not going to win any awards, but it’s better than watching something on television. It’s a huge promo for the Navy and since I was in the Naval Reserves and I’ve been on a few ships, I had a good time with the film. It was fun to watch and I’ve often figured if we were to ever discover aliens, like Fallen Angels, it’s not going to be good for mankind.
