Becky and I went to see Country Strong this weekend at the AMC Theaters in Highlands Ranch, CO. The MovieFone website at Country Strong describes the movie as follows:
“‘Soon after a rising young singer-songwriter (Garrett Hedlund) gets involved with a fallen, emotionally unstable country star (Gwyneth Paltrow), the pair embarks on a career resurrection tour helmed by her husband/manager (Tim McGraw) and featuring a beauty-queen-turned-singer (Leighton Meester). Between concerts, romantic entanglements and old demons threaten to derail them all…”
The Review
Country Strong is movie about a country singer who has problems with alcohol addiction and relationship issues with her husband. She’s disappointed her fans and everyone around her and is trying to decide if she wants to continue performing with all of the demands that come with fame and fortune.
The acting is great, Gwyneth Paltrow did a great job singing and so did the other actors. Unfortunately, this movie is like watching a country and western song played out on the big screen complete with hitting rock bottom and the depression that many of these songs write about. It just has way too much drama with the equivalent of sex, drugs and rock & roll that you would find with most typical rock stars.
The flick was just boring and will make for a good rental, but unless you’re really into country music you probably won’t like this film.
