John & Becky’s Movie Review Of The Uninvited

theuninvitedBecky and I went to see The Uninvited

last week, at the Kerasotes theater in Castle Rock, CO. The Fandango website at The Uninvited describes the movie as follows:

“Anna (Emily Browning) returns home after spending time in the hospital following the tragic death of her mother. Her recovery suffers a setback when she discovers her father (David Strathairn) has become engaged to her mother’s former nurse , Rachel (Elizabeth Banks). That night, Anna is visited by her mother’s ghost, who warns her of Rachel’s intentions. Together, Anna and her sister (Arielle Kebbel) try to convince their father that his current fiancée is not who she pretends to be, and what should have been a happy family reunion becomes a lethal battle of wills between stepdaughters and stepmother…”

The Review
The Univited is a creepy thriller about a young girl who has been in a mental institution since the death of her Mother and comes home to find her Dad with a new beautiful girlfriend. The drama ensues as the young girl and her sister believe that her Mom’s death was not an accident. The plot thickens as the girl’s boyfriend “saw something” the night of the Mom’s death and you wonder what’s going to happen.

Goblin Network Ad Becky and I both thought it was a great movie, even though it was panned by the critics. It has a little bit of a Sixth Sense element to it. It’s not a real scary film in a supernatural type of way and I think that’s the disappointment for many of the viewers, but it is pretty shocking. It’s more of a thriller than a horror film and that’s probably why we liked it.

We both liked The Uninvited and thought it was worth the price of admission. If you don’t see it at the box office, you may want to put it on your rental list when it comes out.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of The International

theinternationalIt’s The Academy Awards tonight, so I figured I had better catch up on our movie reviews before the show.   We’re probably going to go catch a flick tonight since we usually disagree with the snobs at The Academy.

Anyway, Becky and I went to see The International Riders release on opening night, at the AMC theater in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Rotten Tomatoes website at The International describes the movie as follows:

“In The International, a gripping thriller, Interpol Agent Louis Salinger (Clive Owen) and Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Eleanor Whitman (Naomi Watts) are determined to bring to justice one… In The International, a gripping thriller, Interpol Agent Louis Salinger (Clive Owen) and Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Eleanor Whitman (Naomi Watts) are determined to bring to justice one of the world’s most powerful banks. Uncovering myriad and reprehensible illegal activities, Salinger and Whitman follow the money from Berlin to Milan to New York to Istanbul. Finding themselves in a high-stakes chase across the globe, their relentless tenacity puts their own lives at risk as their targets will stop at nothing – even murder – to continue financing terror and war…”

The Review
The International is supposed to be an action packed thriller and there is some action, but the movie didn’t do it for us. Becky fell asleep because it jumped around so much and it was pretty boring. Part of the problem was that the story is probably more true than we realize. I mean, come on’, who doesn’t know that International bankers run the world. Hello, The Federal Reserve is privately owned and we just spent almost a trillion dollars bailing out 10 large banks that were doing everything but banking, out of about 10,800 banks in this country.

Goblin Network AdNeedless to say, the timing for this film was great, but it was kind of boring and hard to believe that four guys in a room were controlling the world. Even the biggest conspiracy’s have to be more complex than this film made this one out to be. The bankers were just way to disorganized to rule the world, but maybe they are and that’s how they lost so much money and required a bailout.   In this film, you wanted them to lose not just because they were terrible people, but because they were not very good at running things.

The International is not a horrible movie and the actors were good, but the directing or the screenplay or something was missing in this film. We can’t say that it was worth going to the box office by any stretch, but it will make for a good rental.

John & Becky's Movie Review Of He's Just Not That Into You

notthatintoyouBecky and I went to see He’s Just Not That Into You On the Doll rip Rapid Exchange video

on opening night, at the AMC theater in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Rotten Tomatoes website at He’s Just Not That Into You

describes the movie as follows:

“Based on the wildly popular bestseller from Sex and the City scribes Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo, He’s Just Not That Into You tells the stories of a group of interconnected, Baltimore-based…

Gigi just wants a man who says he’ll call–and does–while Alex advises her to stop sitting by the phone. Beth wonders if she should call it off after years of committed singlehood with her boyfriend, Neil, but he doesn’t think there’s a single thing wrong with their unmarried life. Janine’s not sure if she can trust her husband, Ben, who can’t quite trust himself around Anna. Anna can’t decide between the sexy married guy, or her straightforward, no-sparks standby, Conor, who can’t get over the fact that he can’t have her. And Mary, who’s found an entire network of loving, supportive men, just needs to find one who’s straight…”

The Review
He’s Just Not That Into You is more like an episode of the old sitcom Friends than a blockbuster, “gotta see it” movie. It’s a definite “girls night out” film with major female star power, including Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Scarlett Johansson and Jennifer Connelly, plus Ben Affleck is in the movie too. This is the big attraction to this film, much more than the story itself.

Goblin Network AdI guess it’s based on a book that came from a line in Sex In The City where one of the girls was waiting for a guy to call her back and some other girl said, “Maybe, he’s just not that into you?”. I apologize to fans of that show if I didn’t get it exactly right, but that’s what I heard.

This isn’t a bad movie, but it’s not a great movie either. However, it’s killing it at the box office with over $22 million in sales. It was cute and there are quite a few differences between the characters that keeps your interest and of course, they all know each other in a sixth degree of separation sort of way. It’s certainly not on my top ten list by any stretch and I wouldn’t ever take the time to watch it again. For that reason, I’m giving it a rating of wait for the Rental and Becky would agree.

John & Becky's Movie Review Of New In Town

newintownBecky and I went to see New In Town last week, at the AMC theater in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Yahoo movie website at New In Town describes the movie as follows:

“A Miami businesswoman is transferred to rural Minnesota, and while she is there she re-evaluates her big-city values…”

The Review
New In Town

Rapid Exchange hd

is a very funny movie that has plenty of laughs and a good clean story. The story takes you into challenges between corporate executives and small town factory workers as the company wants to go in a new direction that is going to cost workers their jobs.

Goblin Network AdEnter Lucy Hill, played by Renee Zellweger, who is on the fast track to becoming a Vice President with the company and is given the task of going from Miami to Minnesota to handle the layoffs. Anyone who has ever been to Minnesota in the Winter, let alone lived there will find this film pretty darn funny. It’s a romantic comedy, with a spark of romance between Renee Zellweger’s character and Harry Connick Jr’s character.

It isn’t going to win any Oscars, but we both found it very entertaining and that’s why you go to the movies. New In Town is a good date movie and Becky and I both agreed that it was Worth The Trip, along with some of our friends that ended up in the same theater.

John & Becky's Movie Review Of Taken

takenBecky and I went to see Taken this past weekend, after the Super Bowl, at the Kerasote theater in Castle Rock, CO.  The Rotten Tomatoes movie website at Taken describes the movie as follows:

“Liam Neeson is an unstoppable force in this adrenaline-fueled thriller from director Pierre Morel. Bryan (Neeson) has taken early retirement from the CIA in order to live closer to his teenage… Liam Neeson is an unstoppable force in this adrenaline-fueled thriller from director Pierre Morel. Bryan (Neeson) has taken early retirement from the CIA in order to live closer to his teenage daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace). Bryan’s government work kept him away from Kim for much of her childhood, and he’s now trying to make up for lost time. When Kim announces that she’s taking a trip to Paris with her friend Amanda (Katie Cassidy), Bryan is apprehensive about her traveling on her own. His worst fear is soon realized, as Kim and Amanda are abducted upon their arrival in France…”

The Review
Taken has plenty of excitement and action. It’s far too violent and disturbing though. The story is captivating and pretty darn scary, given the fact that the sex trade is real and you could see the scenario that unfolds in this movie really happening. Two young girls go on vacation to Europe and the next thing you know they are kidnapped, pumped full of drugs and being sold to the highest bidder as sex toys. If they survive the drugs and the abuse.

Goblin Network AdTaken definitely shows how sick and perverse mankind really is, especially when you get into the underworld of scum. The next time you have some liberal college professor trying to brainwash your kids that people are basically good, there is no God, and that we are evolving to a higher level, just have them watch this film and ask why people in today’s “modern” world would sell other human beings for sex and profit? Doesn’t really match up with a creature that is supposed to be basically good, does it? Shouldn’t that sort of thing have gone out of style with the Roman Empire based on our 2000 years of Evolution? Guess not.

Taken does a good job of showing that men can be pretty wicked and that there are areas of society that we should avoid all together. Unfortunately, you have to wonder why we don’t stand up and crack down on this sort of injustice as well.

I can’t say it’s a great movie by any stretch, but it could make for a good rental if you’re really bored. There is way too much violence for most people, so be aware of that aspect of the film. Our friends Rod & Kimberly Tactaquin went and saw it earlier in the day and Rod called and said, “It’s like watching the Bourne Geriatric.” I would have to agree. Liam Neeson is a great actor, but this role is just too far fetched to pull off. Becky disagreed with me on this one though and thought it was a great flick and definitely worth the trip. Not often that she likes the action packed film more than I did.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of Gran Torino

grantorinoBecky and I went to see Gran Torino a few weeks ago at the AMC theater in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Rotten Tomatos movie website at Gran Torino describes the movie as follows.

“For his fourth directorial feature in the span of two years, Clint Eastwood tells the story of a grizzled Korean War vet’s reluctant friendship with a Hmong teenage boy and his immigrant family. Set in contemporary Detroit, GRAN TORINO tackles the shifting cultural and economic landscape of not only the Motor City, but America as well. Eastwood stars as Walt Kowalski, an unabashed bigot who never heard a racial insult he didn’t love…”

The Review
Gran Torino is Clint Eastwood’s latest flick that deals with a number of social issues.  I didn’t know what to expect going into this movie, especially since Clint Eastwood is getting to be a pretty old and I’ve saw a few of his last movies that I didn’t like that much and I was expecting a film like that one he did quite a few years ago, Bridges of Madison County

House of Sand and Fog psp

that was like watching grass grow.

Goblin Network AdGran Torino was a surprisingly great movie.  There are many parts of this that will bother a number of people, especially if they are overly sensative, but the message and the story is fantastic.  The characters are good, Eastwood is great and there is plenty of emotion in this film.  Not to mention a very cool classic car and the way Clint Eastwood tied his character’s Gran Torino into the movie, even the name of the film, was quite brilliant.

We haven’t been to a movie in quite a long time where the audience clapped at the end of the movie, but that’s what happened with Gran Torino.  Obviously, you’ve seen a good movie when the audience applauds and this movie is going to win some awards at the Oscars.

John & Becky's Movie Review Of Hotel For Dogs

Stop-Loss buy

last week at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, CO. The Fandango movie website at Hotel For Dogs describes the movie as follows:

“When their new guardians forbid 16-year old Andi (Emma Roberts) and her younger brother, Bruce (Jake T. Austin) to have a pet, Andi has to use her quick wit to help find a new home for their dog, Friday. The resourceful kids stumble upon an abandoned hotel and using Bruce’s talents as a mechanical genius, transform it into a magical dog-paradise for Friday – and eventually for all Friday’s friends. When barking dogs make the neighbors suspicious, Andi and Bruce use every invention they have to avoid anyone discovering “who let the dogs in.”

The Review
Hotel For Dogs is a movie that I didn’t see, but our kids and Becky went and saw it, but they all really liked the flick. Bianca said that she really liked it and the characters were great. She said she liked the puppies and thought the story was really good.

Goblin Network AdCorban said that the movie was really funny and that there were some dogs that just cracked him up.

The bottom line is that our kids really liked it and so did Becky and they all thought it was a great flick.
