John & Becky’s Movie Review Of Resurrecting The Champ

Resurrecting The Champ PosterBecky and I went to see Resurrecting The Champ on Saturday Night at the AMC theaters in Littleton, Colorado. The Fandango website at Resurrecting The Champ describes the movie as follows:

Things are not going well for Erik Kernan (Josh Hartnett). Erik, a sports reporter, is stuck covering the bush leagues because his editor (Alan Alda) thinks he cannot cut it as writer. On top of that, his marriage is disintegrating. One night, he rescues a homeless man (Samuel L. Jackson) and discovers the guy is Battling Bob Satterfield, a former boxer rumored to be dead. Erik sees a chance to give his career a much-needed boost by writing the athlete’s story.

Review
Resurrecting The Champ is a great movie that is based on a true story that brings the life of a washed up boxer living on the streets (Samuel L. Jackson) and a newspaper sports reporter (Josh Hartnett) who is about to be out of a job. It moves a little slow at times, but it’s an interesting film that brings the reality and challenges of a person living on the streets and the blows of life that drove him there.

This story is really amazing and it takes place in Denver, Colorado, which made it more enjoyable for us since we live in Colorado. It’s a very engrossing film that has a few twists and turns that we didn’t see coming. The acting by both Samuel and Josh is fantastic! They both give knockout performances and you can’t help but become a huge fan of both of these characters. We’re surprised it’s not doing as well at the box office as some of the other movies that are at the theaters right now because it’s definitely worth the trip without a doubt.

As you can tell, we both thought this movie was definitely worth the price of admission. If you’re looking for something to see at the movie theaters this week, make sure you go and see this film – you won’t be disappointed.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of The Nanny Diaries

The Nanny Diaries PosterBecky and I went to see The Nanny Diaries last week at the AMC theaters in Littleton, Colorado. The Yahoo website at The Nanny Diaries describes the movie as follows:

A 21-year-old New York University student becomes a nanny to a family on the Upper East Side who turns out to be the family from hell. The story of the journey of Annie Braddock, a young woman from a working-class neighborhood in New Jersey, struggling to understand her place in the world. Fresh out of college, she gets tremendous pressure from her nurse mother to find a respectable position in the…

Review
The Nanny Diaries is a romantic comedy starring Scarlett Johansson and Laura Linney about a young woman who takes a job as a nanny on the Upper East Side of New York City while trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life. The critics didn’t like this movie very much, giving it a C rating on average, but Becky and I both enjoyed it and thought it was good flick. It was funny, sad and entertaining all rolled into one. It’s not a great flick, but it’s pretty fun.

It’s a good story about the crazy lifestyle of people with too much money and how they treat their hired help. Becky and I could relate to this flick since we’ve had nannies live in our home since our nine year old was age two.

Frankly, it was quite unbelievable to think that there are people out there, like the family with the nanny portrayed in this film, who’s priorities are so screwed up that they have no relationship with their family or other people, but are totally consumed by materialism. Laura Linney did a great job as a shallow housewife of a multi-millionaire who’s husband is having an affair and who farms out her one child to her nanny at every possible opportunity.

We both liked it and thought it was Worth The Trip and will make for a good rental, especially since it’s a cute romantic comedy with quite a bit of drama.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of The Last Legion

The Last Legion PosterA couple of my buddies and I went to see The Last Legion last week at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, Colorado. The Yahoo website at The Last Legion describes the movie as follows:

Rome, 476 AD. The Roman Empire, a mighty force for almost 500 years, is being threatened. On the eve of twelve-year-old Romulus Augustus’ crowning ceremony to become the new emperor, Barbarian general Odoacer arrives in Rome to make a deal with Orestes. Odoacer makes demands of the Roman Empire in fair exchange for his decade-long support of the Roman legions in the east. But Orestes refuses. On Coronation…

Review
The Last Legion is a dramatic film about the Roman empire and ultimately the rise of King Arthur, but it’s really campy and the acting isn’t very good. We all liked it even though it wasn’t that great of a flick, but I can’t say that it was something that I would recommend paying to see at the theaters. It’s definitely a rental, but a good rental.

The Last Legion is a movie with no sex, over-the-top action, gore or CGi, which won’t appeal to many people. However, it was great to see a really clean movie for a change. You know those movies that are not very good, but fun to watch? This is one of those films. I’ve been a fan of King Arthur for years and this storyline is definitely different than any others that I’ve seen.

At any rate, I’m saying wait for the rental rack for this one.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of The Invasion

The Invasion PosterBecky and I went to see The Invasion last week at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, Colorado. The Yahoo website at The Invasion describes the movie as follows:

The mysterious crash of the space shuttle leads to the terrifying discovery that there is something alien within the wreckage. Those who come in contact with it are changing in ominous and inexplicable ways. Soon Washington, DC psychiatrist Carol Bennell and her friend, Dr. Ben Driscoll, learn the shocking truth about the growing extraterrestrial epidemic: it attacks its victims while they sleep, leaving…

Review
The Invasion is the latest and hopefully the last remake of Jack Finney’s classic science fiction novel The Body Snatchers. It stars Nicole Kidman and it’s about as good as her ex-husband Tom Cruise’s remake of the classic film War of the Worlds. If you haven’t seen War of the World with Tom Cruise it’s definitely a rental and that’s what we both felt about The Invasion.

It’s just a goofy movie. The acting isn’t good, except from Nicole Kidman who tries her best to make this movie entertaining. It also stars Daniel Craig, the latest 007 super spy guy in Casino Royale and he does a great job in the film too, but the story is just lame. It’s like a weak The Dawn of the Dead where you have a strange and invisible alien invader taking over the bodies of healthy individuals to build peace on Earth when they fall asleep, instead of dead zombies coming back to life like The Dawn of the Dead. It’s just as stupid though.

It wasn’t worth the price of admission for sure, but since I like science-fiction flicks I’ll recommend it as a rental, but Becky doesn’t think you should bother watching it at all.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of Superbad

Superbad PosterBecky and I went to see Superbad last night at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, Colorado. The Fandango website at Superbad describes the movie as follows:

High-school seniors Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) have high hopes for a graduation party: The co-dependent teens plan to score booze and babes so they can finally be part of the in-crowd, but their separation anxiety and two bored police officers (Bill Hader, Seth Rogen) complicate the pair’s self-proclaimed mission.

Review
Superbad should have been called Superstupid, but I guess Superbad works since it was such a bad movie. It looks really funny from the previews of the film, but most of the funny parts were shown in the clips for the film. It’s rated R for crude and sexual content, language, drinking, drug use and a fantasy/comic violent image. The movie is definitely all of that and more. There are some funny parts of the movie, but it’s so crude and stupid that it gets really boring super fast.

Superbad doesn’t do it for anyone with a mentality over 17, but it’s going to get rave reviews at the box office since so many teenagers will go to this flick. I can’t even say that it would make a good rental. There are a couple funny characters like a kid who gets a fake I.D. where he calls himself McLovin.

It wasn’t worth the price of admission and will be on the rental rack sooner than later. If you are missing hearing the “F” word every other sentence than you will want to rent it, otherwise don’t bother.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of Rush Hour 3

Rush Hour 3 PosterBecky and I went to see Rush Hour 3 this past week at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, Colorado. The Fandango website at Rush Hour describes the movie as follows:

In Paris, chief inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) and detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) encounter the Chinese Triad crew. The unlikely cop duo continue their unique brand of crime-fighting and high-kicking comedy.

Review
Rush Hour 3 is a repeat of Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2 with worse language and less excitement. The fight scenes are good, but the story is pretty lame and it got old pretty quickly. We went with Becky’s Mom and I think that she liked it better than we did. Jackie Chan is fun as always and does his crazy monkey martial arts tricks as usual. Chris Tucker was funny at times, but more crude than funny most of the time.

This movie isn’t bad, but it’s not really good. It’s somewhere in between a rental and being worth the trip. I thought it was definitely a Rental, Becky agreed with me and Beckys’ Mom thought it was worth seeing on the big screen.

If you’re a huge Jackie Chan fan and you really liked the first two films than you’ll want to see this one for sure.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of Stardust

Stardust PosterBecky and I went to see a sneak preview of Stardust on Thursday night at the Continental theater off of Hampden avenue in Englewood, Colorado. The Fandango website at Stardust describes the movie as follows:

To win the heart of Victoria (Sienna Miller), a beautiful but cold object of his desire, a young man named Tristan (Charlie Cox) ventures into the realm of fairies to retrieve a fallen star. What Tristan finds, however, is not a chunk of space rock, but a striking girl named Yvaine (Claire Danes). However, Tristan is not the only one seeking the star. A king’s four sons need the star as they vie for the throne. Tristan must also overcome the evil witch Lamia (Michelle Pfeiffer), who needs the star to achieve eternal beauty. As Tristan sets out to protect the star and bring her back to his beloved, his journey will bring unforeseen romance, highflying adventure, and incredible encounters with a pirate captain, a shady trader, and an enchanted unicorn among other surprises. But if he can survive on his wits and the strength of his newfound love, Tristan will also uncover the secret to his own identity, and a fate beyond his wildest dreams.

The Review
Stardust stars Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Charlie Cox and Robert Deniro, so pretty much an all-star cast.  It’s a fantasy film about two worlds that are separated only by a small wall, but that are world’s apart in their attributes and about to collide.  A young man is from the natural world, but was born from a mother in the fantasy world and to win the love of a snobbish girl from the natural world that he is infatuated with he will leap the wall and bring her back a fallen star.  It’s a love story.

The story is very entertaining and lighthearted.  There are witches and flying lightning traders, ghosts and crazy princes with all the zany characters you would expect from a fantasy film.  The acting is great, especially by Charlie Cox, Claire Danes and Michelle Pfeiffer who gave awesome performances in this movie.  Robert Deniro was good too, but his character was too far over the top as a cross dressing, gay lightning bolt trader captain.  I thought that his character wrecked the film instead of helped it, even though he played the part well.  I understand in the book, his character was not gay, but apparently Hollywood needed to add that element for some reason.  Our kids wanted to see it, but it’s really a PG-13 movie for the violence and some of the humor.

As you might expect, I liked the film more than Becky did and we went to see it with her Mom and she liked it too.  Becky’s not really big into fantasy films, but I thought it was Worth The Trip while she would say it was a Rental.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of The Bourne Ultimatum

The Bourne Ultimatum PosterBecky and I went to see the new Matt Damon flick The Bourne Ultimatum this week and it was pretty darn awesome. The Fandango website at The Bourne Ultimatum describes the movie as follows:

All he wanted was to disappear. Instead, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is now hunted by the people who made him what he is. Having lost his memory and the one person he loved, he is undeterred by the barrage of bullets and a new generation of highly-trained killers. Bourne has only one objective: to go back to the beginning and find out who he was. He must travel from Moscow, Paris, Madrid and London to Tangier and New York City as he continues his quest to find the real Jason Bourne—all the while trying to outmaneuver the scores of cops, federal officers and Interpol agents with him in their crosshairs.

The Review
The Bourne Ultimatum is the third and possibly the final installment of the Jason Bourne series starring Matt Damon. This is a non-stop thrill ride from start to finish that is just as good as the other two films. The Bourne Ultimatum is totally awesome and the theater was packed when we went to see it.

There are some parts of the film that were over the top, but the story and the movie are so well done and the characters are so compelling, that it’s easy to overlook the “yeah right.” factor. This is definitely the blockbuster of the Summer. A ton of fun that will keep you from going to the restroom or leaving the theater until the very end.
Becky and I definitely thought it was a Don’t Miss It.
