John & Becky’s Movie Review of Red Riding Hood

Becky and I went to see Red Riding Hood last week at the AMC Theaters in Castle Rock, CO with our friends Rod & Kimberly. I got called out of the movie because of a series of crazy events and missed most of the film. While we were in Keystone this week, we went and saw it again with Conroy, Corban and Bianca, so I got to give it a second go around. The Fandango website at Red Riding Hood describes the movie as follows:

“Young Valerie (Amanda Seyfried) feels torn between two men. She loves Peter, but her parents intend that she marry wealthy Henry. Valerie and Peter plan to run away together, but before they can put the plan into action, her sister is killed by a werewolf. The villagers call in Father Solomon (Gary Oldman), a famous monster hunter, to help, but when Solomon warns that the beast takes human form by day, Valerie begins to suspect that the werewolf is someone she loves…”

The Review
Red Riding Hood is an adaptation of the original short story, Little Red Riding Hood or Red Riding Cap in Grimm’s Fairy Tales. If you’re ever read the original story it is very short, about seven pages long, but this rendition takes quite a few liberties with the story to create a pretty wild movie

The critics didn’t like this movie very much and I think that’s because it’s more like a Play than a movie at times. We all liked it and though it has some good action and suspense. It’s not a great film by any stretch, but it was worth the price of admission with some good plot twists and characters. Amanda Seyfried does a good job as Little Red Riding Hood and the fact that the Big Bad Wolf is a werewolf made it rather entertaining. The kids all liked it too and it wasn’t too scary for them with the PG-13 rating.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of Take Me Home Tonight

Becky and I went to see Take Me Home Tonight last night at the AMC Theaters in Highlands Ranch, CO. The MovieFone website at Take Me Home Tonight describes the movie as follows:

“Recent MIT grad Matt Franklin (Topher Grace) should be working for a Fortune 500 company and starting his upward climb to full-fledged yuppie-hood. Instead, the directionless 23-year-old confounds family and friends by taking a part-time job behind the counter of a video store at the Sherman Oaks Galleria…”

The Review
Take Me Home Tonight is another comedy that looked like it could be pretty good from the Previews, however that was not the case. They showed almost all of the funny parts of the film in the Previews and they really were not that funny. The acting was pretty good, couple of the characters were interesting and the majority were totally ridiculous. The story itself was really lame about a guy who wants a girl from High School and for some reason after going to MIT has put his life on hold because he doesn’t know what he wants to do, except get the girl he had in High School who doesn’t know he exists.

Why this film had to take place in the 80’s we do not know? It didn’t make a great deal of sense, it was not very funny and was “strange” at best. They probably should have just made a movie about the boy wanting the girl and falling in love and kept all the other nonsense out of it. It tried to be a romantic comedy and failed at both. I would have to say this film is a rental at best. Becky really didn’t like it at all.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of Hall Pass

Becky and I went to see Hall Pass last week at the AMC Theaters in Highlands Ranch, CO with our friend Brent who was visiting from Minnesota. The MovieFone website at Hall Pass describes the movie as follows:

“This buddy comedy from the Farrelly brothers stars Jason Sudakis and Owen Wilson as a couple of married guys who persuade their wives to give them the ultimate get-out-of-jail-free-card: a marriage Hall Pass. The agreement gives them free reign to behave like bachelors, free from the rules and confines of fidelity, responsibility, and married life, for one week. But soon the guys find the small town where everybody knows them – and their wives — isn’t very conducive to chasing tail…”

The Review
Hall Pass is a movie we thought would be pretty funny based on the Previews, but unfortunately they showed anything that was worth watching in the movie trailers. Once we got into the theater, spent our money to watch this film, we realized we had been duped into buying a ticket for a really stupid movie.

The jokes were totally crude, the story was lame, the acting was terrible. There wasn’t anything really good to say about Hall Pass, except that we were glad when it was over.

Don’t waste your time even renting this movie. It’s a complete waste of time.
