I went to see the new film The Greatest Showman with our daughter Bianca today. It’s another musical with Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron, along with some other popular actors. If you’ve read my previous reviews of how I feel about musicals and people running around singing than you know that I normally hate them. The last one that I saw that I liked was La La Land and that ending sucked and pretty much wrecked that movie. I actually liked that film and endured all the singing and dancing only to have the ending blow the entire movie.
Needless to say, my expectations for this movie were beyond low. I expected to see High School Musical on the big screen since Zac Efron was in it. I didn’t even want to see it, so I sent Becky and Bianca to go see it. Earlier today though Bianca said she wanted to see it again and asked me if I would go and see it with her. I reluctantly went to see it before the Wild Card games came on that were much more interesting to me than this movie.
Well, I was wrong. It was really good. Even with all the running around and singing and dancing the story was good and it was entertaining. Unlike La La Land, The Greatest Showman actually had a great ending, so you didn’t feel like you wasted an entire time watching a musical only to be let down. I still am not a fan of musicals, but I have to say that they did a great job on this movie and it’s based on a true story of PT Barnuam that made it more interesting. I think for the first time ever, I’m going to rate a musical as a Don’t Miss It. I think even if you don’t like musicals you will still like it.
John – **** Don’t Miss It
Becky – **** Don’t Miss It
Bianca – **** Don’t Miss It
