Academy Award® Winner Nicolas Cage (National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Leaving Las Vegas) stars in KNOWING, a gripping action-thriller of global proportions about a professor who stumbles on terrifying predictions about the future—and sets out to prevent them from coming true.

The Review
Knowing is Nicolas Cage’s latest attempt at a blockbuster film. There are parts of it that are pretty good, with some suspenseful elements of the movie. As his character follows this sheet of numbers and major catastrophe’s take place it gets a bit nuts. Then the aliens start to come into the picture and it’s all downhill from there.

You quickly lose interest in the film as you realize that Knowing isn’t about some guy who finds a piece of paper with events taking place. It’s really about a group of angels or aliens on spaceships coming to save the human race and populate a planet with our species. Kind of like a modern day version of Noah’s Ark with spaceships. This will happen before the world is completely destroyed by a blast from a gigantic solar flare.

buy Breakfast at Tiffany’s Maybe our problem with Knowing is that we just knew too much. Maybe we didn’t know enough or just maybe it’s something we just didn’t want to know at all.

Whatever the reason for what we knew, you can know this for sure. Knowing isn’t worth the price of admission, but it may make a good Rental. Had we known this before we went into the theater, we know that we would have saved some money on this one.

“For years, stories have circulated about a secret place in the middle of the Nevada desert, known for unexplained phenomena and strange sightings. It is called Witch Mountain, and when a Las Vegas cab driver (Dwayne Johnson) finds two teens with supernatural powers in his cab, he suddenly finds himself in the middle of an adventure he can’t explain. When they discover that the only chance to save the world lies in unraveling the secrets of Witch Mountain, the race begins, as the government, mobsters and even extraterrestrials try to stop them.”

The Review
Race To Witch Mountain is a remake of the 1970’s film, Escape To Witch Mountain, that starred Eddie Albert of the television show Green Acres fame. I saw the original film as a kid and still remember seeing it at the theater. It’s much better than the first one, since the computer technology and special effects are so advanced now compared to what was available in the 1970’s.

Race to Witch Mountain stars Dwayne Johnson, formerly known as The Rock, kind of like Prince was formerly known as Prince. Dwayne apparently doesn’t want to be known as The Rock anymore, so you need to call him Dwayne. At any rate, he does a great job in this kid’s flick and it’s a very entertaining movie. It’s pretty silly at times, as you might expect from a kid’s film and it’s kind of violent. It’s not a show to take really little kids to or they will probably be scared, but overall everyone enjoyed the movie and thought it was Worth the Trip.

The story is about two alien kids who are trying to save planet Earth from destruction and they need to get back to their spaceship before time runs out. It’s a goofy storyline, but it was fun with some good laughs and plenty of action for the kids. Bianca and Corban liked it the most, which was kind of surprising since they are the youngest.

John & Becky's Movie Review Of I Love You Man

iloveyoumanposter Becky and I went to see I Love You Man last week with my sister Barbara O’Connor, at the Kerasotes theater in Castle Rock, CO. The Fandango website at I Love You Man describes the movie as follows.

“Engaged to the woman of his dreams yet uncomfortable with the prospect of not having a best man for his upcoming wedding, a successful real estate agent with no male friends schedules a series of “man dates” in hopes of finding a suitable candidate for the big day. Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd) is just like most other guys, only when it comes to making friends he’s always been a bit withdrawn. After proposing to his girlfriend, Zooey (Rashida Jones), however, Peter quickly realizes that he doesn’t even have any friends close enough to qualify for the role of best man.”

The Review
I Love You Man brings back Paul Rudd and Jason Segel together in this comedy about finding a “man friend”. We saw them both in that stupid movie, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, where Paul was the surf instructor for Jason’s character who has lost his shallow girlfriend to a famous goofball. We didn’t like that movie enough to write a review about it, so at least this one is getting a movie review. Still, this movie wasn’t that good.

Becky and I both liked the actors in this flick, but the material isn’t that good. There are some very funny parts in this movie, but once again the Hollywood gay agenda comes screaming at your again. If you read between the lines on this and other films, people are born gay, but apparently everyone is gay and you can choose to be gay. It’s really quite confusing for anyone who has half a brain since it makes no logical sense whatsoever. Needless to say, it’s a distraction from the film.

There are also way too many crude jokes in the film that were not necessary and took away from the flick. The premise was funny, but most of the comedy was oddball and stupid.

Between the three of us, we didn’t leave the film thinking it was worth the price of admission.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of Duplicity

I still need to write a review for Escape to Witch Mountain that we saw last week, but in the meantime, Becky and I went to see Duplicity last night, at the AMC theater in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Rotten Tomatoes website at Duplicity describes the movie as follows.

Duplicity Garden State download is an entertaining and smart drama that is a bit more like a romantic comedy with the chemistry between the two big stars. In some ways it’s like most other Julia Roberts films, since she tends to play the same character all the time. Duplicity reminded me a little bit like Ocean’s Eleven since the two main characters are trying to pull off a heist.

The biggest complaint that most people will have with Duplicity is that it jumps around a bunch. The acting is good, there is some swearing that wasn’t really necessary and plenty of romance in the bedroom, but those scenes are in good taste. The photography is good, but the editing does a number of those split screens with too many things going on at once. It’s a bit like being at a sports bar at times or having a bunch of windows open on your computer as you try to keep track off all the things happening.

Becky and I both liked it and we met our friend Angie Hotzfield and her sister Barbara, who were also there. They both liked it too, but be prepared to figure out what’s going on. Don’t leave to go to the bathroom or you may not figure this one out. It’s a fun flick that we thought was Worth The Trip. I’m trying to talk Becky into going to see “I Love You Man”, “Knowing” looks pretty stupid, so we’ll probably skip that one.

missmarch_smallteaser Becky and I went to see Miss March last week, at the AMC theater in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Yahoo website at Miss March describes the movie as follows:

“A young man awakens from a four-year coma to hear that his once virginal high-school sweetheart has since become a centerfold in one of the world’s most famous men’s magazines. He and his sex-crazed best friend decide to take a cross-country road trip in order to crash a party at the magazine’s legendary mansion headquarters and win back the girl…”

Miss March The Mask release is in the top running for one of the worst movies of the year. Which is why I waited to write a review about it since I didn’t really care. There was so much crude humor that it was unbelievable. The story was nuts, the acting was terrible, the script was bad and Hugh Hefner is getting so old that he’s starting to look like Vincent Price.

It is very rare when Becky and I agree with the Hollywood Critics, but in this case they are spot on. This movie was terrible. There are a couple scenes in this film that will be stuck in my head for a very long time and I’m not so sure that’s a good thing.

As one reviewer for Entertainment Weekly wrote, “Writer-director-stars Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore, of the Whitest Kids U’Know, here prove the crassest, most maladroit moviemakers you know.”

Don’t waste your time or money on this one. Becky said, “We should have read our review first.”.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of The Watchmen

watchmenposter Becky and I went to see The Watchmen on Saturday Night, at the Kerasotes theater in Castle Rock, CO. The Rotten Tomatoes website at The Watchmen describes the movie as follows:

When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the outlawed but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes…”

The Review
The Watchmen apparently was a big hit at the box office this weekend, with crazy people like Becky and me giving this stupid film our money. Sixty-five percent of the visitors to Rotten Tomatoes liked this flick and there were even some people who hooted and hollered at the end of our movie. Becky and I were thinking they had to be excited like we were, that the movie was over. It’s a silly, graphically violent, epic, about unbelievable super hero’s that is three hours long.

Okay, 2 hours and 43 minutes, plus previews, so get ready to sit for three hours, if you decide to go see this movie. It’s not worth it. Watching a guy get his arms cut off, a lady have a bullet blow through her leg, constant beatings is not entertainment unless you’re dull. Over and over, this film has violence combined with a few wild sex scenes and there isn’t a brain cell left in your head, after three hours to think anything good about this film – you’re numb.

As one reviewer wrote, “Watchmen left me looking at the exit far more often than at the screen.” Enough said, don’t waste your time or money on this one.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of Inkheart

inkheartposter1 Becky and I took our two boys Conroy and Corban to see Inkheart last week, at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Fandango website at Inkheart describes the movie as follows:

“Mo Folchart is a father who possesses a secret ability to bring characters from books to life when he reads them aloud. But when Mo accidentally brings a power-hungry villain from a rare children’s fable to life, the villain kidnaps Mo’s daughter and demands Mo bring other evil fictional characters to life. In an attempt to rescue his daughter, Mo assembles a disparate group of friends – both real and magic – and embarks on a journey to save her and set things right…”

The Review

Inkheart has been out for a while and stars the popular movie star Brendan Fraser as a bookworm who has amazing super powers. When he reads a book the characters in the book come to life, and as you might expect, these powers get him into some serious trouble.

The movie is a bit cheesy, but it’s a really fun flick. I was surprised to see Andy Serkis, the voice of the nasty character Gollum from Lord of the Rings, in this movie. He played a great villian in Inkheart and was very entertaining.

Inkheart is a good kids movie and we all enjoyed it. It will make for a really great rental, but we thought it was worth the price of admission. The story, special effects and acting were all well done. There are quite a few parts that are not believable and a bit goofy, but it’s a children’s film and if you keep that in mind you’ll have a good time. The critics didn’t like this one, but we did.

John &amp;amp;amp; Becky&amp;amp;#039;s Movie Review Of Coraline 3D

coraline3dposter2 I took Bianca to see the new cartoon Coraline in 3D a couple weeks ago, at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Fandango website at Coraline describes the movie as follows:

“Coraline Jones (Dakota Fanning) is bored in her new home until she finds a secret door and discovers an alternate version of her life on the other side. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life and the people in it – only much better. But when this seemingly perfect world turns dangerous, and her other parents (including her Other Mother voiced by Teri Hatcher) try to trap her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination and bravery to escape this increasingly perilous world – and save her family…”

The Review
Coraline 3D

is the first creepy cartoon for little kids that I’ve seen since The Nightmare Before Christmas. No surprise though since they were both Tim Burton films. This film is about a young girl, Coraline, who not is satisfied with her life and her busy parents that have moved into a new home. She starts searching the house for something to do and discovers that there is something evil in the house that is trying to take her away from her parents.

The Candy Snatchers movie download Bianca and I really liked this movie and thought it was super cool in 3D, but we went home and told Conroy, Corban and Becky, so they went the very next day. They were not as thrilled about it as we were and didn’t like it that much. Becky thought it was a rental and so did the boys, so there was a bit of a disagreement and we caught it from them when they got home.

I guess you’ll have to check it out on your own now and draw your own conclusion. For what it’s worth, I didn’t like the Preview of this film and I thought it was going to be a terrible movie. Maybe that’s why I was surprised that I liked it and thought it was Worth The Trip. It had a good moral to the story about how the grass always looks better on the other side of the street, even when you’re a small child it’s buyer beware.
