Becky and I went to see the new comic book super hero movie X-Men: First Class last weekend with the kids. The Fandango website at X-Men:First Class describes the movie as follows:
“Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-MEN.“
The Review
X-Men: First Class is a great story that takes the viewer back to the origins of the X-Men and how it all started. It’s really about the villain Magneto and Professor X and how they were at one time friends on the same mission to destroy another evil mutant who was more powerful than both of them. It’s a pretty exciting movie with plenty of action.
The whole mutant super power thing based on accelerated Evolution is a bit ridiculous, which is why it’s a comic book. Mutations within a species as a general rule ends up in something harmful to the individual and potentially the species and not “super powers” by any stretch, but it’s still entertaining as a sci-fi movie nevertheless. If you’re interested in the problems with mutations related to Evolution, you can read an article written by a guy much smarter than I am on the subject by clicking here.
Becky and I both liked it, but I think I liked it more and so did the kids. We all thought it was worth the price of admission, if you like fantasy movies and super hero flicks, especially the X-Men. There is one use of the “F” word in the movie, so be aware of that if you’re bringing children. If you don’t like these type of films, you’ll want to skip this one because you definitely won’t like it unless you like this genre.
