Becky and I took the kids to see the new film My Week With Marilyn a few weeks ago at the AMC theater in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Fandango website at My Week With Marilyn describes the movie as follows:
“In 1956 England, Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne) lands a job as a production assistant on the set of “The Prince and the Showgirl,” starring Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams). Marilyn is also honeymooning with her new husband, playwright Arthur Miller, but the combined pressure of work and the demands of the Hollywood hangers-on is driving her to exhaustion. When Miller departs for Paris, Colin seizes the opportunity, to give Marilyn respite during a week in the idyllic British countryside.“
The Review
My Week With Marilyn is a strange, but fascinating film about the iconic Marilyn Monroe. It focuses on her relationship with a young man, while filming a movie in England. The film gives a glimpse into her life from the perspective of this guy, who fell in love with her, while working as her personal assistant for a week. It’s a little goofy in that regard, but it’s pretty good.
She definitely was a beautiful woman, but a bit of a nut with a serious drinking and drug problem according to this film. It also portrayed her as a woman who needed to be the center of attention and have the world answer to her beckon call. She was also incredibly insecure. If you’re a fan of Marilyn Monroe you should really like this movie. We didn’t dislike the movie, but we found it rather interesting. It’s not a feel good movie, but more like a documentary.
We thought it was a pretty good film though between Worth The Trip and being a Rental.
