Becky and I went to see the new Mark Wahlberg flick Contraband last week, while we were in Phoenix, AZ running the Rock & Roll Marathon. The Fandango website at Contraband describes the movie as follows…
“Ex-smuggler Chris Farraday (Mark Wahlberg) gave up his criminal ways long ago. But, he’s forced back into the game after his brother-in-law, Andy (Caleb Landry Jones), botches a drug deal for a crime lord (Giovanni Ribisi), leaving Chris to settle the debt. With the help of his best friend (Ben Foster), Chris assembles a team to run to Panama to retrieve a fortune in counterfeit bills. When things go awry, Chris must call on his rusty skills to complete the task before his family pays the price.”
The Review
Contraband is a pretty good action flick starring Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale with plenty of twists and turns. It’s rated R for being a violent film, which you would expect since it’s about smuggling. If you can get past the violence and the language the story is a good one.
Mark Wahlberg is a good actor and fun to watch on the Big Screen. The film is much more exciting than it is entertaining and it does make you wonder about what kind of crime and corruption are going on in America today. Mark Wahlberg’s character is caught in the middle of a situation he doesn’t want to be involved in, which creates plenty of tension for the audience.
It has a number of plot twists and it’s not your typical shoot em’ up film where the main characters are invincible. It’s definitely more real to life than most films with plenty of action, fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Most people coming out of the theater really liked this movie. The critics were not huge fans, but we thought it was worth the price of admission. We both liked it and so did our friends that were with us. It’s not a great film that is going to win any awards, but it was a pretty good action flick.
