Becky and I went to see the movie, Lockout at the AMC Theater in Castle Rock, CO a couple weeks ago. The Fandango website at Lockout describes the movie as follows…
“A man is wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. He’s offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates…”
The Review
Lockout can best be described as a remake of Escape from New York in outer space. The character played by Guy Pearce has the same personality as the infamous “Snake Plissken” from the 1980’s. His character has to save the President’s daughter in this installment instead of the President himself, like the 1980’s version.
I don’t think this movie was promoted as a remake, but it is just way too similar not to be a remake. The original with Kurt Russell was way better by the way, even if it was filmed a movie from 1981. Lockout isn’t a great movie by any stretch, it’s an action movie with no real chemistry between the characters. It’s definitely not worth the price of admission, but it would make for an okay rental. It’s pretty violent, so be aware of that if you decide to watch it.
