Becky and I went to see “The Weather Man” the other day. The MovieFone Website at http://movies.aol.com/movie/main.adp?tab=synop&mid=20279 describes the movie as follows:
“Popular Chicago weatherman Dave Spritz (Nicolas Cage) has a shot at the big time in New York City when a national morning television show calls him for an audition. Professionally, Dave is on top of the world, but his personal life is in complete disarray. Dave’s dealing with a painful divorce from his wife (Hope Davis), the illness of his father (Michael Caine), and trouble with his kids. He’s poised between stability and disaster, and whether he keeps his grip or takes a tragic fall remains to be seen.”
The Review
This movie was almost as boring as “Prime”, but it did have a few good laughs. It was a bit psychotic in that it didn’t know if it was a drama or a comedy. At least we couldn’t tell what it was trying to be. There were a few parts that were a bit crude and unnecessary that made the film even worse. The Weather Man tried really hard to make a point about the struggles of life, but it was lost. You’ll definitely be looking at your watch waiting and hoping for the ending.
Becky and I are both giving this one a “Don’t Bother”. Don’t be surprised if you see “The Weather Man” and “Prime packaged together at Costco or Sam’s Club as a two DVD set in the future. You’ve heard of don’t judge a book by it’s cover, well the same can be said of judging a movie by its trailer.
