Becky and I went to see The Uninvited
last week, at the Kerasotes theater in Castle Rock, CO. The Fandango website at The Uninvited describes the movie as follows:
“Anna (Emily Browning) returns home after spending time in the hospital following the tragic death of her mother. Her recovery suffers a setback when she discovers her father (David Strathairn) has become engaged to her mother’s former nurse , Rachel (Elizabeth Banks). That night, Anna is visited by her mother’s ghost, who warns her of Rachel’s intentions. Together, Anna and her sister (Arielle Kebbel) try to convince their father that his current fiancée is not who she pretends to be, and what should have been a happy family reunion becomes a lethal battle of wills between stepdaughters and stepmother…”
The Review
The Univited is a creepy thriller about a young girl who has been in a mental institution since the death of her Mother and comes home to find her Dad with a new beautiful girlfriend. The drama ensues as the young girl and her sister believe that her Mom’s death was not an accident. The plot thickens as the girl’s boyfriend “saw something” the night of the Mom’s death and you wonder what’s going to happen.
Becky and I both thought it was a great movie, even though it was panned by the critics. It has a little bit of a Sixth Sense element to it. It’s not a real scary film in a supernatural type of way and I think that’s the disappointment for many of the viewers, but it is pretty shocking. It’s more of a thriller than a horror film and that’s probably why we liked it.
We both liked The Uninvited and thought it was worth the price of admission. If you don’t see it at the box office, you may want to put it on your rental list when it comes out.
