Becky and I escaped to see Slumdog Millionaire Turn the River dvdrip last night at the Esquire theater in Denver, CO. The Fandango website at Slumdog Millionaire describes the movie as follows.
“Jamal Malik, an 18 year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, is just one question away from winning a staggering 20 million rupees on India’s “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” But when the show breaks for the night, police arrest him on suspicion of cheating; how could a street kid know so much? Desperate to prove his innocence, Jamal tells the story of his life in the slum where he and his brother grew up, of their adventures together on the road, of vicious encounters with local gangs, and of Latika, the girl he loved and lost.”
The Review
Slumdog Millionaire is one of the best movies we’ve seen all year! This movie was absolutely incredible and it will give you a total new appreciation for life in America and the fact that you do not live in India in the garbage dumps or that you had to grow up as a “slumdog”. The power of the Caste system being alive and well, that many people from India and others who like to promote the idea of Reincarnation in the United States like to ignore, is loud and clear in this movie.
Slumdog Millionaire is an emotionally charged and extremely powerful film that will suck you in and rip at your heart strings on a number of levels. The story is so good and the characters are amazing, but it will also make you sick to think that there are children like those portrayed in this movie who are having to raise themselves and being exploited by sick individuals for profit.
We were not sure if we wanted to see this movie because a few parts of it have sub-titles, but we are so glad we went to it. We had to drive near Downtown Denver, but this movie is way beyond just being Worth The Trip, it’s definitely a Don’t Miss It. It doesn’t matter who you are, unless you have a heart of stone, you should really enjoy this movie.
