Becky and I went to see “Good Night, and Good Luck” last night. The Fandango website at Fandango Good Night describes the movie as follows:
“Directed by George Clooney, this film details the conflict between newscaster Edward R. Murrow and Sen. Joseph McCarthy during the 1950s, one that had Murrow defying corporate sponsorship as he and his news team reported on the tactics of McCarthy’s Un-American Activities Committee. McCarthy accused Murrow of being a communist and a huge public feud erupted. The McCarthy/Murrow feud is considered a huge leap forward for objective journalism.”
The Review
Becky disliked this movie enough to get up, walk out and go to see Shopgirl. I stayed and thought it was a good film, but it could have been a great film if it would have been done in color. It’s a black and white film and I think they made a big mistake donig it in black and white instead of color. They reduced their audience by taking this approach and it didn’t add anything to the film. In fact, I saw a few people besides Becky get up and leave as well.
Bottom line is that this is a good film for people who like History and true stories, but it’s not for everyone. Rather than saying that it’s “Worth The Trip”, which I personally thought it was, I have to give it a rating as a “Rental” for being to selective on the audience by their stupid black and white move.
John – ** Rental
Becky – * Don’t Bother
