John & Becky’s Movie Review Of The Simpsons Movie

The Simpsons PosterBecky and I took the kids to see The Simpsons movie at the Colorado Cinemas in Castle Rock, Colorado this week. The Yahoo movies website at The Simpsons Movie describes the movie as follows:

“Who cares? It’s The Simpsons! They’ve been on the air for 18 seasons and the trailer for the movie looks hilarious. Truth be told, the plot is being kept under tight wraps, and there are reports that the producers are deliberately leaking false story lines to throw off the Internet crowd. What we do know is that the world has to be saved…by Homer. Saved from some sort of a calamity created…by Homer. The core creative team from the TV show is on board for the movie, and all the regular characters too. Woo-hoo!”

The Review
The Simpsons Movie didn’t do it for Becky and I. I’ve used to like The Simpsons, especially the unique characters of Bart and Homer. Of course, this is when Homer could actually hold down a job and wasn’t a complete idiot, Bart was always in trouble with Principal Skinner, Marge had a brain and there was a joke about this dysfunctional cartoon family that still got along and loved each other with Lisa and Maggie showing some level of intelligence over their brother and Dad.

However, those writers who actually showed The Simpsons as a strange family in a upper-lower-middle class society have long since gone away. They have been replaced with morons equal in brain power and creativity only to their newly revised retarded Homer and Bart Simpson characters. This movie was like watching three episodes we could have stayed home and watched on FOX without having to hear Marge take God’s name in vain, which is something that her character never would have done years ago with far better writers.

Of course, that’s the problem with this movie. The Simpsons are total idiots and there is nothing fun or funny about this film. It’s stupid. The should change the name to The Stupids. I didn’t even mind grandpa ripping on Christians, like many people who saw the film said they were offended, since so many Christians lately have proven to be knuckleheads, but this movie fell fall short of the hype and didn’t do justice to the original Simpsons episodes.

Our kids liked it more than we did, but I don’t think I could recommend this movie for kids and I wouldn’t let them buy this video or watch it again for sure. I didn’t think it was even a good rental choice and certainly not worth the money we paid to watch it.
