John & Becky’s Movie Review of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Prince CaspianBecky and I took our kids to see the new Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian movie last week at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, Colorado. The Yahoo website at Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian describes the movie as follows:

“One year later, the Kings and Queens of Narnia find themselves back in that faraway wondrous realm, only to discover that more than 1,300 years have passed in Narnian time. During their absence, the Golden Age of Narnia has become extinct and Narnia has been conquered by the Telmarines and is now under the control of the evil King Miraz, who rules the land without mercy. The four children will soon meet a curious new character: Narnia’s rightful heir to the throne, the young Prince Caspian, who has been forced into hiding, as his uncle Miraz plots to kill him in order to place his own newborn son on the throne.”

The Review
The second installment of The Chronicles of Narnia has finally arrived and the rarity has happened where a sequel is actually better than the original. This new movie is much like the first one with talking animals and many of the same characters, but the story is much better with way more action and enchantments than the first trip into Narnia.

Bazi AdNarnia has become a much more savage place than before. There is way more violence in Prince Caspian than the first one. It’s a bit more like Lord of the Rings than the first one. The story is very spiritual with great examples of having faith in God even when it looks like all else is going to fail.

We all liked this film and would have to rate it a Don’t Miss It.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of What Happens In Vegas

What Happens In VegasBecky and I went to see What Happens In Vegas on opening night at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, Colorado earlier this month. The Yahoo movies website at What Happens In Vegas

Senseless hd

describes the movie as follows:

“Two people discover they’ve gotten married following a night of debauchery in Vegas, with one of them winning a jackpot after playing the other’s quarter. The pair trys to undermine each other and get their hands on the money… falling in love along the way.”

The Review
What Happens In Vegas was a great chic flick that Becky and I both had a good time watching. The story is really funny and you go to the movies to have a good time. This is one of those films that you will have a good time watching, regardless of how long you’ve been married, you will relate to these two characters in some way. Especially if your spouse is as opposite as you are and these two characters are.

Bazi AdThe intellectuals need to be warned about this film. There is nothing mentally stimulating about this movie. It’s 100% pure emotion as a romantic comedy that isn’t supposed to make a great deal of sense for the super analytical. It’s a great date movie. That’s the only disclaimer I have to put on What Happens In Vegas.

It’s a funny movie and we thought it was worth the price of admission.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of Flawless

FlawlessBecky and I went to see Flawless at the Landmark theaters in Englewood, Colorado last week for our wedding anniversary. The Fandango website at Flawless describes the movie as follows:

“In 1960s London, a janitor (Michael Caine) who dreams of liberating his employers of their inventory, finds an accomplice in an American executive (Demi Moore) who’s stymied by the old boys’ network.”

The Review
Flawless is a really great flick with Demi Moore and Michael Caine. It’s a true story that is extremely interesting and very believable. With all the hype and goofy flicks that are at the theaters right now and so many stories that are really hard to believe. Flawless is more like a classic movie with a great story, fantastic acting and really good directing of the film.

Bazi Ad Like Mike the movie We went to the new Landmark theater off of I25 near Orchard and Belleview and it’s a very cool theater if you haven’t been there. For $9, you get your movie ticket, plus popcorn and a drink. If you haven’t tired this new theater out, make sure you check it out. Flawless was playing there last week and it should still be there, so make a date and go see this film. If you’re tired of the mainstream movies this Independent movie is really worth checking out.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Indiana JonesBecky and I took our kids to see the new Indiana Jones movie tonight at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, Colorado. The Fandango website at Indian Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull describes the movie as follows:

“Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) races the Soviets — led by agent Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett) — to a lost city called Akakor in the Peruvian forest, in pursuit of a mystical crystal skull. Along for the adventure are old flame Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen), long-time friend and competitor Mac (Ray Winstone) and new sidekick Mutt Williams (Shia LeBeouf).”

The Review
Okay, I’m behind the eight ball on writing movie reviews the past week. I haven’t written reviews yet for What Happens In Vegas, Flawless, the new Narnia movie or even the strange documentary Young@Heart Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd rip , that Becky and I saw last week, but I had to write a review for the new Indiana Jones movie that we saw tonight.

I was a huge Indiana Jones fan as a kid and totally loved Raiders of the Lost Ark. I was also a big time Star Wars fan. I saw the original Star Wars in the movie theater 28 times as a kid. I skipped quite a few days of school to see that flick so many times, so it’s not that I don’t like George Lucas or his creativity. Unfortunately, after the first Indiana Jones film, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg proved to the world that they are terrible at creating movies together. Sorry Indiana Jones fans, but this movie you waited so long for is nothing short of ridiculous.

Bazi AdNews flash to the billionaire writer and Director, nobody with half a brain is going to believe that Indiana Jones is a Super Hero as they have made him out to be, especially at Harrison’s age. Even with a magic egg shaped crystal head of an alien, you can’t take a boat of any kind over three giant water falls and live, and then get out of the water, brush yourself off and go fight with natives. By the way, five minutes later your clothes will not be dry. That kind of thing only happens in the last installment of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Isn’t the job of a Director to notice things like this? I think Spielberg was taking a nap when he did this film. Go see Iron Man instead, who is a real Super Hero character, with a much better Directing job and vastly superior action scenes.

This new Indiana Jones movie is absurd, boring and too long for as ridiculous as they made it out to be. I thought I was watching The Temple of Doom all over again, which also sucked. The only thing believable about this movie was Harrison Ford’s gray hair. It is a completely silly and goofy flick with space aliens right out of the Star Wars bar scene that looked like the big headed alien from the Alien movie. The familiar theme song, Indy’s hat and his famous whip just can’t carry this movie.

In fairness, our boy Corban, who is 8 years old really loved it and so did our 10 year old, so they’ve made a PG-13 movie that can only be appreciated by kids 10 and under. It’s about as believable as SpongeBob Squarepants. Becky thought it was a rental and Bianca who is 7 years old said she liked the “one with the Ark” much better. I can’t recommend this movie on the big screen. There are way better movies out there right now to spend your money on.

This film is definitely a one time Rental in our book.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed

ExpelledI took our kids to see the movie Expelled

Surf’s Up hd

last week at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. The Fandango website at Expelled describes the movie as follows:

“Ben Stein follows his journey around the globe where he discovers that scientists, educators and philosophers are being persecuted in a modern day witch hunt because they dare to go against the theory of evolution. These pillars of education are being fired, ridiculed and ostracized for merely challenging Darwin’s theory; proposing that life on this planet could be a part of some intelligent design and not random chance. This thought-provoking film not only forces us to question what we have been taught but challenges us to ask–What else is being kept from us?”

The Review
Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed is a documentary starring Ben Stein that is very thought provoking. The movie is a great flick for anyone who has a belief in God or even intelligent design for that matter and wants to see how whacked out the University systems in our country have become in defending the theory of evolution. In the film you discover that the zealots for evolution have gone to the point of preaching the theory as fact and removing from the educational system anyone who disagrees with the evolutionary viewpoint.

Bazi Ad

I thought this flick was awesome. My kids didn’t really like it since it’s directed toward an older audience, except for our oldest thought it was interesting, but it’s really not a kid’s movie. If you’re not into documentary style movies you may not like this film. If you’re an Evolutionist you will probably hate this film since it does such a great job showing how flimsy the belief in evolution as the reason for life on our planet really is and pokes fun at some of the “scientists” who believe that original life forms traveled on the backs of crystals to form human beings. I didn’t make that up by the way.

There are some very powerful aspects of this film. From a historical perspective it’s done extremely well to show what Hitler and the Nazi’s believed and how many people today believe the same things as the the Hitler regime.

As a Christian, I’ve always found it fascinating that people who champion things like global warming, nuclear proliferation, saving the whales or saving the rain forests are almost always evolutionists or atheists who deny the existence of God. The reality is that based on their belief system these people have absolutely no right to be concerned about such things as global warming or other things that mankind is doing to destroy the planet. After all, according to their belief system as an atheist or evolutionist there is no such thing as evil or right or wrong, but mankind is just continuing to evolve to a higher level and if we destroy the planet in the process it shouldn’t matter. There isn’t any life after death and whatever life remains after mankind destroys the Earth should “evolve” to another level or start the process over.

Of course, when you confront an evolutionist or atheist on these issues, suddenly their tune changes as they look for a way to climb out of the hole they have dug themselves into in their belief system. The other point I like to bring up to the evolutionist is that if the theory of evolution is true, how come it only happened once? At which point they get a puzzled look on their face and tell me “No, evolution is happening everyday around us.” My response is, “Then how come we don’t see a monkey losing its tail today that just made it to the next level of evolution or did that process stop and there are no monkey’s no going through the process any longer of becoming humans?” If evolution were true as it is really presented we would see an ongoing process of animals evolving on a daily basis that have been going through the process for millions of years and jumping to the next level.

After all, there are now over 6 billion people on the planet and millions of species that should be changing forms as they continue to go through the process of evolution. The answer for the evolutionist is that it takes millions of years for each little change to happen. Yes, given enough time in the evolutionary model anything can happen, which is much like taking a billion piece jigsaw puzzle putting it in a box, shaking it for a billion years and eventually the jigsaw puzzle will put itself together through random selection.

The fact remains that if we really made the jump from monkey to ape to human as the evolutionist wants us to believe than why are we not seeing our fellow “brothers and sisters” making the jump too or did it just happen once and now they are left to be monkeys until the end of time. I wonder how the monkeys feel when some of their human “relatives” eat their brains or cook them on a stick in some parts of the world. Maybe that’s what is preventing their jump to our “level”.

The real reason and any true scientist or child in a third world country for that matter, who understands the simple concept that things just don’t create themselves will attest to, is that mankind is destructive by nature, is under judgment by God, will eventually destroy the planet through their own selfish ambition, which is why the evolutionist and atheist are really concerned about the planet they live on. The fact is that the theory of evolution as the creator of life is as much of a fantasy as the movie “Planet of the Apes”.

In closing, I’ll leave you with something Jesus told his followers over 2,000 years ago about the future of mankind and life on this planet. The fact is that if God doesn’t intervene mankind will wipe out everyone and everything on this planet. There are enough nuclear weapons stockpiled right now from the Cold War to destroy all life on this planet several times over and Iran is wanting to build a few more. It’s a sad thing to think that if mankind did evolve that we evolved to become a creature that has the desire to destroy our fellow man and everything else for that matter. I’m glad that Hitler got it wrong!

Matthew 24: 21-21 – 21 “For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will. 22 “Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.”

This film is definitely a Don’t Miss It in my book.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of Speed Racer

Speed RacerBecky and I took our kids to see the much anticipated Speed Racer at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, Colorado on Friday. The MSN website at Speed Racer describes the movie as follows:

“The Matrix masterminds Andy and Larry Wachowski usher anime icon Tatsuo Yoshida’s classic 1960s-era hit into the new millennium with this family-friendly story of a young racecar driver who takes on the mysterious Racer X in a custom-made, gadget-loaded speed machine named the Mach 5. Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is the kind of driver that every wheelman wishes he could be: a born winner whose unbeatable combination of aggression, instinct, and fearlessness always finds him crossing the checkered flag with a comfortable lead. In Speed Racer’s mind, the only driver who could present him with any real challenge is his late brother — the legendary Rex Racer.”

The Review
Speed Racer is a long, mind blowing, extremely colorful movie that is energy overload to the max. Becky described it as “strange”, our kids thought it was great and as “The Cool Car Guy” I really liked this flick, but I also grew up on the Speed Racer cartoon everyday after school.

However, I don’t think that it was kid friendly enough by any stretch. I’m not sure what the makers of Speed Racer were thinking, other than that they have probably been playing Grand Theft Auto for too long on their X boxes and haven’t been away from creating The Matrix long enough. It’s really not a good idea to have a PG movie designed for parents to take their kids to and then have one of the main characters in the movie, who is under 10 years of age, give a grown-up the finger. I have had to warn every parent I spoke with this Weekend who asked me about this movie, that the little kid in the movie gives someone the finger. Do you think they are saying, “Great, let’s take the kids.”? And then Becky follows up with, and they say “ass” a bunch of times.

Bazi AdYes, that happens in this film and they cuss on several occasions as well, which I never remember happening in the original Speed Racer cartoon. Probably because it would never happen. Someone might want to tell the Wachowski brothers that they should actually design a kids film for kids instead of themselves. Our kids were ticked when the little guy flipped off the evil owner of Royalton racing and our son Corban immediately said, “Dad, did you see that? That’s really bad”.

Like The Matrix, this movie is not based on anything that would be close to reality. If you go in thinking you’re going to see anything that could ever happen you will be thoroughly disappointed. Think Spongebob Squarepants or Spy Kids or Bugs Bunny and you will enjoy Speed Racer. The characters are fun, the energy is incredible and we all liked it much like a ride on a roller coaster at Disneyland. Just be aware of the language issue if you take your kids, but beyond that we all liked the flick. It’s a thrill ride for sure.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of Iron Man

Iron ManBecky and I took our three kids to see Iron Man at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, Colorado yesterday. The Fandango website at Iron Man describes the movie as follows:

“Robert Downey Jr. stars as Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who builds a high-tech suit of armor to escape captivity.”

The Review
Iron Man is another Marvel comic book super hero that has come to life on the big screen and it’s a pretty cool show. There are quite a few adult situations, so be aware of that if you bring your kids. It’s violent and a bit crazy at times with a few “yuck” scenes, but it’s a great thrill ride for the money. Definitely an early Summer blockbuster for sure. It did $100 million at the box office for opening weekend.

Marvel did a great job on Iron Man. The acting and Directing is great and although I’m not a huge fan of Robert Downey Jr. he was the right guy for this role.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of Made of Honor

Made of HonorBecky and I went to see Made of Honor at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, Colorado last night. The Fandango website at Made of Honor describes the movie as follows:

“For Tom (Patrick Dempsey), life is good: he’s sexy, successful, has great luck with the ladies, and knows he can always rely on Hannah (Michelle Monaghan), his delightful best friend and the one constant in his life. It’s the perfect setup until Hannah goes overseas to Scotland on a six-week business trip… and Tom is stunned to realize how empty his life is without her. He resolves that when she gets back, he’ll ask Hannah to marry him — but is floored when he learns that she has become engaged to a handsome and wealthy Scotsman and plans to move overseas. When Hannah asks Tom to be her “maid” of honor, he reluctantly agrees to fill the role… but only so he can attempt to woo Hannah and stop the wedding before it’s too late.”

The Review
Made of Honor is a total chic’ flick and what is essentially a remake of My Best Friend’s Wedding with a different cast of characters and a new setting, only with a guy as the Maid of Honor trying to steal the bride instead of a woman trying to steal the groom. It’s a cute film that is targeted to women, I think 80% of the audience on Friday night were women.

Bazi Ad

Becky and I both liked this film. It was fun and lighthearted, but very predictable. Becky liked it more than I did. I would rate is as a Rental and she thought it was Worth The Trip. It’s a great date movie and there was a moral to the story about the fact that falling in love has more to do with just infatuation, but compatibility with a best friend. Which is why it was so much like My Best Friend’s Wedding.

The acting and directing were well done though and it was entertaining, but I would definitely wait for the rental rack.
