John & Becky’s Movie Review of Mud

MudBecky and I went to see Mud about a month or so ago with Conroy, Corban and Bianca at the AMC Theater in Highlands Ranch, CO and I finally got around to writing a review about this movie.  I couldn’t believe that I forgot to write a review about this movie.  The MovieFone website at MUD describes the movie as follows…

”’MUD’ is an adventure about two boys, Ellis (Tye Sheridan) and his friend Neckbone (Jacob Lofland), who find a man named Mud (Matthew McConnaughey) hiding out on an island in the Mississippi. Mud describes fantastic scenarios-he killed a man in Texas and vengeful bounty hunters are coming to get him. He says he is planning to meet and escape with the love of his life, Juniper (Reese Witherspoon), who is waiting for him in town. Skeptical but intrigued, Ellis and Neckbone agree to help him. It isn’t long until Mud’s visions come true and their small town is besieged by a beautiful girl with a line of bounty hunters in tow..”

The Review:  MUD is a movie that reminded me a great deal of how movies used to be made, where they had heart, they were realistic and about life, without all the fake action scenes and stupid scripts.  It reminded me of films like The Sandlot and Stand By Me where the characters and story can just suck you into their lives and make you want to watch what is going to happen next.  The ending of this film is great.

Matthew McConnaughey and Reese Witherspoon do a great job in this movie and so do the other main characters.  The acting is great!  It moves slow at times and not everyone will like this movie.  It’s not exactly a feel good film, but it’s extremely well done.  Becky and the kids didn’t like it as much as I did, except for Corban who thought it was a Don’t Miss It and thought it was fantastic.  Mud is probably one of my favorite films this year!  It’s very well done and shows you what life in America can be like for people outside the fast paced big city and into the backwoods of rural America.

I’m definitely saying this is a Don’t Miss It to put on your list even though Becky thought it was a Rental, which I didn’t get at all.  I really liked this movie and definitely think you should put it on the list of films to see this year.

John – **** Don’t Miss It
Becky – ** Rental
