John & Becky's Movie Review Of Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert in Disney Digital 3D

Hannah MontanaI took our six year old Bianca on a Father – Daughter date to see the new 3D film Hanna Montana

at the AMC theater in Highlands Ranch, Colorado on Saturday night. It’s $15 a ticket to get into this show, so be prepared to spend some money. The Fandango website at Hannah Montana 3D describes the movie as follows:

“Hannah Montana fans everywhere will have a chance to see their favorite singer, songwriter and actress, Miley Cyrus, perform her sold-out concert tour on the big screen in HANNAH MONTANA & MILEY CYRUS: BEST OF BOTH WORLDS CONCERT. Shot during Cyrus’s 54-city tour and exhibited in state-of-the-art Disney Digital 3D™, the film will be coming to theaters for a special one week engagement on February 1, 2008.”

The Review
Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus 3D is a huge hit around the country and apparently in Denver as well, since they extended the show an additional week. It’s extremely well done, the 3D was as good if not better than some of the rides at Disney World in 3D and Disney definitely has a cash cow with Miley Cyrus.

Bianca absolutely loved this concert and the theater was packed with Moms and Dad’s like me taking their daughters to this unique movie. I don’t think I saw too many little boys, our son Corban who is 8 had no interest in going and unless your child is a Hannah Montana fan, they may not like it that much. The Jonas Brothers, I had no idea who they were, but Bianca did, were part of the show for a while. It’s just like a concert with some backstage insight into how they put the concerts together and made this movie.

It was entertaining, the music was good and the kids all loved it. Bianca thought it was definitely a Don’t Miss It and I thought it was Worth The Trip, if you have a 6 year old daughter who is a big fan of the television show.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of In Bruges

In BrugesBecky and I went to see In Bruges at the Landmark Esquire theater in Denver, Colorado on Friday night. The Fandango website at In Bruges describes the movie as follows:

“Bruges (pronounced “broozh”), the most well-preserved medieval city in the whole of Belgium, is a welcoming destination for travellers from all over the world. But for hit men Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken (Brendan Gleeson), it could be their final destination; a difficult job has resulted in the pair being ordered right before Christmas by their London boss Harry (two-time Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes) to go and cool their heels in the storybook Flemish city for a couple of weeks. Ken and Ray’s vacation becomes a life-and-death struggle of darkly comic proportions and surprisingly emotional consequences.”

The Review
In Bruges

Big Wednesday psp

made us feel like Colin Farrells character Ray felt about being in Bruges for the entire movie. We couldn’t wait to get out of this movie. The best way to describe this movie is why it received the rated R rating, it’s loaded with strong bloody violence, pervasive language and some drug use. That’s the entire movie. There is nothing else here. There is some witty dialogue between the two hit men and some of the other characters in the story, but beyond that it’s stupid.

Non-stop F bombs and bad language from the opening scene to the last, strong bloody violence just like the description tells you and some drug use with a midget. The acting was good, the script was ridiculous and the movie overall was terrible. Neither of us thought it was worth the price of admission. It might make a good rental for fans of Pulp Fiction, since it’s designed for people with the same mentality, but beyond that it’s definitely not worth your time.

John & Becky's Movie Review of The Eye

The EyeBecky and I went to see The Eye at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, Colorado on Friday night with our friends Rod & Kimberly Tactaquin. The Yahoo website at The Eye Straw Dogs buy describes the movie as follows:

“Sydney Wells is an accomplished concert violinist who has been blind since a childhood tragedy. Sydney undergoes a double corneal transplant, and her sight is restored. But Sydney’s happiness is short-lived as unexplainable shadowy and frightening images start to haunt her. Are they a passing aftermath of her surgery, Sydney’s mind adjusting to sight, a product of her imagination, or something horrifyingly real? As Sydney’s family and friends begin to doubt her sanity, Sydney is soon convinced that her anonymous eye donor has somehow opened the door to a terrifying world only she can now see.”

The Review
The Eye is a spooky movie that is scary for about a half hour and then it gets pretty lame. Jessica Alba does a great job in the film, but the script isn’t that good. It’s much like The Sixth Sense or Gothika that has been done before with someone who can see ghosts, but it moves really slow and it’s much too happy of an ending for a scary movie.

The Scary Movie spoofs are going to have fun with this one. There is the Jessica Alba shower scene that goes nowhere, followed by the Jessica underwear scene. We all got a kick out of that since the entire budget of this movie probably went to getting Jessica to play the part, since there wasn’t to this film.

The Eye isn’t a really bad film, but it’s just not worth the price of admission on the big screen. Definitely wait for the rental to see this one.

The Hitcher II: I’ve Been Waiting movies

John & Becky’s Movie Review of Untraceable

UntraceableBecky and I went to see Untraceable at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, Colorado on Friday night. The Yahoo website at Untraceable describes the movie as follows:

“Within the FBI, there exists a division dedicated to investigating and prosecuting criminals on the internet. Welcome to the front lines of the war on cyber-crime, where Special Agent Jennifer Marsh has seen it all–until now. A tech-savvy internet predator is displaying his graphic murders on his own website–and the fate of each of his tormented captives is left in the hands on the public: the more hits his site gets, the faster his victims die. When this game of cat and mouse becomes personal, Marsh and her team must race against the clock to track down this technical mastermind who is virtually untraceable.”

The Review
Untraceable should have been called Unbearable. This movie was disturbing and gruesome and it moved really slow. The ways the maniac in the film tortures people and how millions of Internet viewers tune into watch him kill was sick. Frankly, we should have got up and left after the first 20 minutes and if we had to watch again we wouldn’t.

The only thing good about this movie was Diane Lane and it’s too bad she got roped into such a terrible and horrific story. The acting was good, the directing was even okay, but the story was really bad.

Our advice is to skip this movie, even if you’re a Diane Lane fan.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of 27 Dresses

27 DressesBecky and I went to see 27 Dresses at the Kerasotes theater in Castle Rock, Colorado this Friday. The Yahoo website at 27 Dresses The Hitcher II: I’ve Been Waiting buy describes the movie as follows:

“Jane is idealistic, romantic and completely selfless–a perennial bridesmaid whose own happy ending is nowhere in sight. But when younger sister Tess captures the heart of Jane’s boss–with whom she is secretly in love–Jane begins to reexamine her “always-a-bridesmaid…” lifestyle.”

The Review
27 Dresses is a cute chick flick with good acting and a different kind of love story. Many parts of the film have been done before, on the movie wedding circuit, but this one is unique with the fact that Heigl plays this woman obsessed with marriage and has actually kept 27 dresses from each wedding she has attended. She does a fantastic job in the role and definitely makes the film.

There are a few twists and turns in 27 Dresses and it’s not a great movie, but it is fun. Becky and I both enjoyed the movie and thought it was worth seeing on the big screen, but if you want to wait for the rental it will make for a good one.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of The Bucket List

Bucket ListBecky and I went to see The Bucket List at the AMC theater in Highlands Ranch, Colorado this past weekend. The Fandango website at Bucket List describes the movie as follows:

“Two terminally ill men try to fulfill a wish list known as “The Bucket List” before each kicks the bucket. After they break out of a cancer ward, they head off on a road trip with an itinerary that includes racing cars, eating giant plates of caviar and slinging poker chips in Monte Carlo.”

The Review
The Bucket List is a good flick with plenty of emotion, but I didn’t think it was a great flick. Probably because the movie studio gave away so much of the film in the Previews that the jokes and interesting parts of the film were less funny and compelling when we saw them on the big screen. I didn’t think that it was very believable and probably would have been better if the characters were not from such different walks of life. Becky disagreed and thought it made sense seeing that they are both terminally ill. She really liked the film and would rate it a Don’t Miss It where I thought it was Worth The Trip.

Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman were both great in this movie, but for a while there you almost think the two of them are a little too close for not knowing each that well. It gets a bit weird at times, but it redeems itself in the end. I started to wonder why they were going all over the world, it started losing the point after a while. Also, there is no way they would be doing all the things they were doing with such a short time to live. I wasn’t convinced their health would hold out as long as it did.

Anyway, it was still worth the price of admission and I think Becky liked it more than I did. I thought it was a good flick though.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of Juno

JunoBecky and I went to see Juno

Keith dvd at the Kerasotes theater in Castle Rock, Colorado this past weekend. The Yahoo website at Juno describes the movie as follows:

“Juno is a whip-smart teen confronting an unplanned pregnancy by her classmate Bleeker. With the help of her hot best friend Leah, Juno finds her unborn child a “perfect” set of parents: an affluent suburban couple, Mark and Vanessa, longing to adopt. Luckily, Juno has the total support of her parents as she faces some tough decisions, flirts with adulthood and ultimately figures out where she belongs.”

The Review
Juno is a great little independent film with plenty of laughs and emotion from start to finish. Sure, it’s very unrealistic that this girl would actually respond to life the way she does, but who cares, the situations and the way the imaginary world that has been created unfolds in this movie is fantastic.

We went with our friends Rod and Kimberly and we all enjoyed it. It’s one of those movies that will have you talking about it at the end of the film and making comments about how clever it was done. Kind of like a “Meet The Parents’ movie where nothing is very realistic, but it’s hilarious because of the way the characters respond to one another.

The writer of this script deserves an award because there wasn’t one character in this movie that you couldn’t relate to in some way. From the desperate yuppie couple wanting to adopt a child, to the dysfunctional family Juno comes from, to her “get a clue” cheerleader girlfriend, and her nerdy boyfriend, these people are a riot.

Juno is definitely one of the best films of the year in my opinion. At least, it’s the best Independent film I’ve seen this year and I would say it’s a don’t miss it. However, there are some people that won’t relate to the humor or the story and others who will stick up their nose at it. Nevertheless, I think most people will get a kick out of this flick.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep

Water HorseBecky and I took the kids to see The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, Colorado tonight. The Yahoo website at The Water Horse describes the movie as follows:

“Angus, a young Scottish boy, finds an enchanted egg. Taking it home, he soon finds himself face-to-face with an amazing creature: the mythical “water horse” of Scottish lore. Angus begins a journey of discovery, facing his greatest fears and risking his life to protect a secret that would give birth to a legend.”

The Review
The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep is a heartwarming story about a boy and his horse, but in this case it’s a creature of myth and legend. The movie is extremely well done and takes place in Scottland on the famous Loch Ness where the famous Loch Ness Monster is believed to reside.

There are no well known actors in this film, but the acting is fantastic. The story is great and our 6 year old Bianca told me at the end of the movie, “Dad, I cried at the end”. It’s definitely one to put on your list to see with the entire family. Regardless of the age, everyone will like this film, especially since it’s such a unique film.

We’re rating The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep a Don’t Miss It. Go see it this weekend, if you’re looking for something to do.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of Alvin and the Chipmunks

Alvin and the ChipmunksBecky and I took the kids to see Alvin and the Chipmunks at the AMC theater on Pleasure Island in Disney World, Florida on Christmas night before we left Disney World for Colorado. The MSN movie website at Alvin and the Chipmunks describes the movie as follows:

“Alvin, Simon, and Theodore are back in director Tim Hill’s computer-animation/live-action hybrid following the further adventures of the world’s most adorable singing trio. Songwriter Dave Seville (Jason Lee) has been struggling to gain recognition in the music industry for some time, and despite the fact that his former college roommate (David Cross) is now a high-profile powerbroker at Jett Records, Dave still can’t manage to get a break. Things soon start to look up, however, when Dave discovers three singing chipmunks hiding out in the branches of a Christmas tree in Jett Records’ world headquarters. Realizing that these woodland crooners cold prove to be his ticket to the big time, Dave does his best to transform Alvin (Justin Long), Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler), and Theodore (Jesse McCartney) into the next great pop sensation. As adorable and talented as they may be though, these bouncy little critters aren’t quite domesticated just yet; they still have a wild streak in them a mile wide, and it isn’t long before Dave’s life, home, and career are in utter chaos. But staying mad at such lovable little creatures is next to impossible, no matter what kind of mischief they might get into. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide”

The Review

April Fool’s Day movies

Alvin and the Chipmunks is a movie made from the famous Alvin and the Chipmunks songs we used to listen to as kids. The animated characters were really cute and the story was fun and funny at times.

The movie was sold out with a crying baby that I think the parents left in our theater and went to a different movie, or at least it seemed that way since they never took them out – ever. That didn’t help the movie at all, since there were times we couldn’t hear some of the dialogue during the film. The acting was something to be desired though especially by the lead actor. The co-star was actually more believable as a villain than the main character, but the kids loved it so it didn’t really matter.

Becky and I would rate it as a Rental, but since all of our kids rated it as a Don’t Miss It, if you have kids you’re going to want to take them to this one during this Holiday season.

John & Becky's Movie Review of National Treasure Book of Secrets

National Treasure 2Becky and I took the kids to see National Treasure – Book of Secrets This Christmas film at the AMC theater on Pleasure Island in Disney World, Florida last night. The Yahoo website at National Treasure – Book of Secrets describes the movie as follows:

“Treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates looks to discover the truth behind the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, by uncovering the mystery within the 18 pages missing from assassin John Wilkes Booth’s diary.”

The Review
National Treasure: Book of Secrets is a continuation of the first National Treasure story with another great history lesson. There is plenty of action, the majority of the movie is really far fetched, but like the first film it’s a great deal of fun. The story is easy to follow, probably easier to follow than the first installment and the characters are good with a mix of individuals for all ages.

The kids really liked it and so did Becky and I. We wouldn’t rate it a Don’t Miss It, but it was Worth The Trip. It’s a good clean film for Christmas to go and see with your family, but be prepared for a little bit of violence.
