John & Becky's Movie Review Of Transporter 3

.!.

Transporter3Becky and I went to see Transporter 3 last week at the Kerasote theaters in Castle Rock, CO. The Fandango website at Transporter 3 describes the movie as follows.

“Frank Martin has been pressured into transporting Valentina, the kidnapped daughter of Leonid Vasilev, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency for the Ukraine, from Marseilles through Stuttgart and Budapest until he ends up in Odessa on the Black Sea. Along the way, with the help of Inspector Tarconi, Frank has to contend with the people who strong armed him to take the job, agents sent by Vasilev to intercept him, and the general non-cooperation of his passenger. Despite Valentina’s cynical disposition and his resistance to get involved, Frank and Valentina fall for each other, while escaping from one life-threatening situation after another.”

The Review
Transporter 3 is the third installment of the Transporter series about performance driver, martial arts expert Frank Martin. It’s a bit like the other Transporter films, which you would expect seeing that it’s number three. Jason Statham is great in this role as a tough guy. He’s almost a bit like James Bond, but probably a better driver, which would be hard to believe. Like the Bond movies, Transporter 3 has plenty of over-the-top action, far fetched stunts and violence.

White Men Can’t Jump release

The film itself is an insane storyline since Frank’s character can’t get too far from his Audi A8 W12 or he will blow up. I had to see the film because I love his car and it has plenty of action, but it’s totally far fetched, even more than James Bond surviving a free fall from his airplane in the last installment of the Bond series. It’s definitely a rental.

I have to talk a minute though about Frank’s car. The Audi A8 W12 is an incredible machine. Not quite the same as Bond’s Aston Martin, but a killer ride nonetheless that starts at $120,000. With a 6.0 liter, 48 valve engine, 450hp and a 6 speed automatic transmission, it will get up and go. There’s a great chase scene in this film between a Mercedes and Frank’s Audi are going head to head. The “yeah right” factor kicks in for what he does to elude the guys chasing him, but it’s still fun.

There’s also this part in the film, where he needs to get air out of his tires to breathe underwater and I was thinking, “Odds are good that car would have Nitrogen in the tires, so that’s not going to work.” Not too mention that even a $120,000 Audi A8 isn’t going to start after being submerged underwater and if it did, it isn’t going to perform the way it does in this film. One of the challenges of being The Cool Car Guy I guess.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of Australia

AustraliaBecky and I went to see Australia this weekend at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Fandango website at Australia describes the movie as follows.

“An English aristocrat inherits an Australian ranch the size of Maryland. When English cattle barons plot to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle driver to drive 2,000-head of cattle across hundreds of miles of the country’s most unforgiving land, only to still face the bombing of Darwin by the Japanese forces that had attacked Pearl Harbor only months earlier.”

The Review My Blueberry Nights film
Australia is an epic three hour film starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman that is about the people of Australia during World War II, which was a great deal like the Wild West. It really centers around a young native boy and his struggle of being half white and half Aboriginee, who is the story teller of the film. There was apparently a great deal of racism in Australia toward the Aboriginal people during the 1940’s.

Australia was an entertaining film that has it all. Probably because it was three hours long and like watching two or three movies rolled into one. About two hours into the movie I looked at Becky and said, “Is it over?” and she said, “There is still an hour left.” That’s the biggest problem with this movie, although it’s pretty far fetched in a number of parts as well. However, it’s still a good flick and worth the price of admission.

Becky and both liked Australia and thought it was done very well. We would recommend it and say that it was Worth The Trip. Just be prepared to sit for a long time. It’s a bit like Gone With The Wind, Australia version and takes place during World War II instead of The Civil War.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of Four Christmases

Four ChristmasesBecky and I went to see Four Christmases at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, CO on Friday. Fandango website at Four Christmases describes the movie as follows.

“When upscale, happily unmarried San Francisco couple Kate and Brad find themselves socked in by fog on Christmas morning, their exotic vacation plans morph into the family-centric holiday they had, until now, gleefully avoided. Out of obligation—and unable to escape—they trudge to not one, not two, but four relative-choked festivities, increasingly mortified to find childhood fears raised, adolescent wounds reopened…and their very future together uncertain.”

The Review
Four Christmases was a funny movie. Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon did a great job. There are some great lines in the film that will make you laugh and there are a number of parts that are completely over-the-top. The situations they find themselves in based on lying to their families makes for a pretty funny film.

Goblin Network AdHowever, there are a number of really stupid parts in the movie that are totally ridiculous and many people may find them offensive. We saw a few people get up and leave, so not everyone thought it was funny. A few of these parts were not funny at all, but definitely wrecked the film because they were so whacked out.

Four Christmases will make for a good rental. We thought there were plenty of funny parts and it even had a good Christmas message about the importance of family that tried to save the film toward the end. Becky and I both agreed though that we would wait for this one to hit the rental racks. It’s a good comedy, just not that good.

John & Becky’s Movie Review Of Bolt

boltposterBecky and I took the kids to see Bolt earlier this week at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, CO. The Fandango movie website at Bolt describes the movie as follows:

“For super-dog BOLT (John Travolta), every day is filled with adventure, danger and intrigue at least until the cameras stop rolling. When the star of a hit TV show is accidentally shipped from his Hollywood soundstage to New York City, he begins his biggest adventure yet a cross-country journey through the real world to get back to his owner and co-star, Penny (Miley Cyrus). Armed only with the delusions that all his amazing feats and powers are real, and the help of two unlikely traveling companions — a jaded, abandoned housecat named Mittens (Susie Essman) and a TV-obsessed hamster named Rhino (Mark Walton) — Bolt discovers he doesn’t need superpowers to be a hero.”

The Review
Bolt is a very well done animated picture geared toward kids that are the ages of ours, who are 10, 8 and 7 years. There were a bunch of little kids in the movie when we went and this lady behind us drove us completely nuts with her two year old that she let run around the theater and even had him digging in Becky’s purse. We couldn’t believe it, but some people have no common sense when it comes to raising their kids. Someone needs to produce a manual on how to take a toddler to a movie.

Goblin Network AdThe story of Bolt was very funny and done well. It’s a bit silly at times as you might expect, but it’s a kid’s flick and our kids really liked it. Bolt should do well at the box office and it will probably be added to many people’s video collection when it comes out on DVD.

Until them we would say that it was definitely worth the price of admission and a fun family film.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of Twilight

TwilightBecky and I went to see the new movie Twilight at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, CO last week. Fandango website at Twilight describes the movie as follows.

TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern-day love story between a teen girl and a vampire. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a bit different, never fitting in with the girls at her school. When Bella is sent to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn’t expect much to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she’s ever met.

The Review
Twilight is a good teenie bopper flick about a young girl who falls in love with a teengage vampire at her high school. It was a good movie for the genre, but be prepared for a theater full of teenage girls texting all their friends.

Goblin Network AdIt’s more of a love story than anything and even though it’s about vampires there isn’t any gore, which was nice. I don’t even think there was any swearing. If you’ve read the book you will obviously want to see it, but if you haven’t you might want to wait for the rental.

It’s not that it’s a bad film. It’s geared toward a teenage audience, it’s pretty predictable and I thought it was incredibly stupid on a number of levels, but I still enjoyed it. It was done well enough that Becky and I both liked it and it was interesting since the vampire teenager has fallen in love with what is normally on the menu. It’s definitely different and that’s probably what we both liked about it. I was close to rating it a rental, but I would have to go one up and give it a Worth The Trip for the entertainment value.

John & Becky's Movie Review Of Warren Miller's Children Of Winter

Children of WinterBecky and I went to see the new Warren Miller film last week Children of Winter at the Douglas County High School in Castle Rock, CO of all places. The Warren Miller website at Warren Miller Entertainment has three different teasers for the movie and and a full trailer that you will want to check out.

The Review
Children of Winter Roxanne full

Midnight Express move

is an awesome documentary and the 59th Warren Miller film, so he’s been doing these movies for years. If you haven’t seen one, you don’t know what you’re missing. It was $15 to get into this movie and it included an intermission after one hour and a free lift ticket to Keystone, so we’ll be making a trip to Keystone, Colorado sometime this Winter.

Goblin Network AdWhen you go to the Warren Miller website there is a show locator tool to find out if this film is playing in your area. It’s not playing nationwide, so you may have to go on vacation somewhere or possibly wait to see the rental. What I can tell you is that it was definitely worth the price of admission, especially if you are a skier or snowboarder. The cinematography and action in this flick are amazing.

Seeing what some of these people are capable of doing on skis or a snowboard is unbelievable. Especially as an avid snowboarder, I think that’s what I found so fascinating about this movie. You will flip out when you see some of the mountains these people ride, places they end going including getting pulled behind a horse in Leadville, Colorado on a pair of skis down a street and the tricks they pull off without killing themselves. It’s incredible! If you get a chance to see it – go.

John & Becky’s Movie Review of Quantum Of Solace

Quantum of SolaceBecky and I went to see the new James Bond flick Quantum of Solace last night in a sold out showing at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Fandango movie website at Quantum of Solace describes the movie as follows:

“Following the betrayal and death of Vesper Lynd, James Bond (Daniel Craig) makes his next mission personal. The hunt for those who blackmailed his lover leads Bond to ruthless businessman Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a key player in the organization which coerced Vesper. Bond learns that Greene is plotting to gain total control of a vital natural resource, and must navigate a minefield of danger and treachery to foil Greene’s plan….”

The Review
Quantum of Solace is the second installment of Daniel Craig playing the role of James Bond. It’s actually a sequel to the first one Casino Royale, which was a total surprise for a Bond movie. I’m a James Bond fan and I think Daniel Craig is the best of the bunch.

Goblin Network AdQuantum of Solace is non-stop action from start to finish! The start of the movie has Bond in his very cool Aston Martin being chased by an Alfa Romeo, which was definitely one of my favorite scenes in the movie as “The Cool Car Guy”. The Aston Martin is definitely one of my favorite cars, as their website states “An Aston Martin combines three important elements: power, beauty and soul”, making it the perfect vehicle for James Bond. The Alpha Romeo was cool too, but it’s hard to beat the Aston Martin. The chase scene is fantastic except for the fact that I cringed when I saw what happened to his car.

Not only were the cars cool, but Daniel Craig, as James Bond reminds me of the Matt Damon, Jason Bourne, Bourne Identity series of films with way more action than drama. There are a few parts that were way over the top that they could have edited out, such as an airplane dogfight that was ridiculous, but it was still fun to watch.

I really liked Quantum of Solace and totally recommend it, especially for true Bond fans.

John & Becky's Movie Review of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

Madagascar 2Becky and I took the kids to see Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa on Sunday at the Kerasotes theaters in Castle Rock, CO. The Fandango movie website at Madagascar:Escape 2 Africa describes the movie as follows:

“Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, King Julien, Maurice and the penguins and the chimps find themselves marooned on the distant shores of Madagascar. In the face of this obstacle, the New Yorkers have hatched a plan so crazy it just might work. With military precision, the penguins have repaired an old crashed plane sort of…”

The Review
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is a funny kids film about some wild animals with human characteristics and plenty of adult humor to keep the parents entertained. The characters are the same as the first film, including the gang of “can do” penguins with attitude. The story focuses on the lion, Alex, again played by Ben Stiller who finds his Dad and Mom upon arriving back in Africa.

Goblin Network AdThere are a few scenes that are bit whacky for a kids film. The hippo, Gloria, discovers that the giraffe is in love with her after she has a date with “Motto, Motto”, the male dominant hippo, who is shallow and only interested in her “huge”, “extra large”, body. It’s pretty funny the way the movie portrays this situation. Our kids were cracking up, but some parents may find that offensive.

The cross dressing King Julian who pops out of the cake and has a giant ego is a very funny character, but some parents may find his zany antics a bit over-the-top. Overall though, the film delivers and is entertaining for a cartoon. The kids liked it and we found it to be a good family outing, which was the goal of the film.

John & Becky's Movie Review Of RocknRolla

RocknRollaBecky and I went to see RocknRolla this weekend at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Fandango movie website at RocknRolla

Katyn film

describes the movie as follows:

“When a Russian mobster orchestrates a crooked land deal, millions of dollars are up for grabs, and all of London’s criminal underworld wants in on the action. Everyone from a dangerous crime lord to a sexy accountant, a corrupt politician and down-on-their-luck petty thieves conspire, collude and collide with one another in an effort to get rich quick…”

The Review
RocknRolla

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York hd is the new Guy Ritchie film that falls into the genre of Action Comedy, Caper and Crime. It’s not very funny by any stretch. The language is rough and there is more than one disturbing situation because of the fact that it deals with mobsters and a wild bunch of criminals. With a name like RocknRolla and Rock and Roll being known for sex and drugs, I guess the expectation of this movie is in the title itself only add some violence.

Goblin Network AdThere were parts of this movie that I thought were done very well and actually liked, but other parts that I disliked. Becky would agree, but I don’t think she liked much about RocknRolla at all.

It’s too violent at times and the language is definitely European. I say that because so few movies I’ve seen done in Europe do not have bad language. From watching most European movies like this one, you would swear that the people who in invented the English language know longer know how to use it. However, it is a gangster movie and there are some violent scenes in this one.

This movie is definitely a mixed bag. You will have some people who will really like it and others who will hate it. I don’t think there will be many who are in between. I liked it enough to recommend it to a certain audience because this movie is not for just anyone. If you side with Becky most of the time be sure and take her advice. If you side with me on most of the films we go see than you might like this one.

John & Becky's Movie Review of Role Models

Role ModelsBecky and I went to see Role Models on Friday at the AMC theaters in Highlands Ranch, CO. The Fandango movie website at Role Models describes the movie as follows:

“Two salesmen trash a company truck on an energy drink-fueled bender. Upon their arrest, the court gives them a choice: do hard time or spend 150 service hours with a mentorship program. After one day with the kids, however, jail doesnt look half bad…”

The Review
Role Models K-19: The Widowmaker movies stars Seann William Scott, best known from the movie American Pie and Paul Rudd. It’s a movie that is amazingly stupid, unrealistic and crude, but it’s very funny in parts. The characters are completely off-the-wall and goofy, but like American Pie and other zany comedy flicks, Role Models has some pretty funny scenes. Unfortunately, it’s out of control and definitely rated R for a reason. Don’t even think of taking your kids to this movie.

Goblin Network Ad>I think I liked this movie more than Becky did, but it’s a comedy that you know you shouldn’t be laughing at some of the humor, but you can’t help yourself. It’s just too nuts at parts.

I think most people will find it offensive, so I can’t recommend it other than maybe as a rental. This way you can turn it off if you have trouble with the content.

I can’t say that I would want to see this movie again, but it should make for a good rental.
